Hello all,

We are new DVC owners.:woohoo: Our home resort is SSR and recently booked our first visit home for next November (11 month window). We booked a Grand Villa. I was assuming all Grand Villa's have preferred views but now after reading a couple threads I am having second thoughts. Are the views drastically different at SSR for GV's, if they are, can I request a particular villa or particular view??

I have been reading these boards ever since we bought and have learned so much. One thing in particular that helped me out is day-by-day ressies. Never knew you could do that and since our dates and accommodations were not that flexible this tid-bit of info (which was not shared with us by DVC) helped to ensure we got the dates and villa we wanted.

Thanks for your help

You can request anything you like. But requests are not guaranteed and can delay you getting into your villa if they decide to grant your request and that villa is not cleaned promptly.

You should be very general in your requests. The more specific you get, the more likely you will be disappointed.

For example, state what about the view is most important to you. For SSR, that might be a DTD view or a pool view or a woods view. Whichever is most important to you is what you should request. Perhaps the location is more important to you, so then that should be your request.

Requesting anything more specific than those general things will make it less likely to have your request filled. That is especially true about requesting a specific villa. That would depend on someone else checking out of that specific villa on the exact day that you arrive.

I've found that checking in early increases the chances of getting my requests met. That may work differently with a Grand Villa though, as there are so few of them compared to 1 bedrooms.

Welcome Home!

Don't spend the next 11 months fretting...if you want a section...do call and put the request in.. but I'm guessing you will be thrilled with the GV and the stay!!!

Let me give you my opinion which will most likely will be different than anything else you will hear on the subject.

On these forums I see people obsessing about their particular view. They tend to think that that is the most important decison relating to their trip. It's as if they don't get the view that was requested the trip will be something less than perfect. That is really crazy.

The view from the room is actually the least important aspect of the vacation. How much time do these people spend in their rooms and looking out the window. The request for a particular view is way out of control and way over blown in these forums. At BVW the view translates to points which is a vaild request.

In reagrd to SSR a reuest for a particular section is worth considering. I stayed there last month and was in the very farthest building with the longest walk. I will never complain about the walk at BWV again.

My advice to everyone is to slow down and not obsess about a view. I see some people carry that to a further extreme and actually request a specific room number. Relax and enjoy your vacation no matter what room you get. In the past I even had the dumpster view studio at WLV but it didn't that stop us from having a great vacation.

I see where you are coming from, but my husband and I actually do spend alot of time in our room, so a view is very important to us. We look at a lake to golf view at home and dont really want to "downgrade" when on vacation and look at a parking lot. Most think we are crazy, but we are "those people" who pay extra for water view at the mods, just to ensure we wont be looking at asphalt for much of our vacation. :goodvibes

I think with the Grand Villas you will get a nice view no matter which building you are in. Our last stay we were in a studio and had a lovely view of the parking lot. We were on the end by the stairwell. But I think with the building configurations, the Grand Villas are situated such that they are more in the middle of the buildings so more likely to not look at a parking lot which means you'll have the pond or DTD or the golf course perhaps. Perhaps someone has a layout of the various sections / buildings that they can post.

BTW, congrats on planning your first trip home. The GV at SSR is bigger than our house. How many people are you having for your trip?

Are you a DVC owner? DVC is not a good choice for people who believe view to be "very important" - unless you own BWV points (or VAKL points) and book right at eleven months. With the BWV/VAKL exception - DVC doesn't guarantee a view - and there are frankly some ones you wouldn't be happy with.

Thanks for the congrats nzdisneymom...we are extremely excited. Since this was our first trip "Home" we decided to splurge and use our points we banked from '07 and borrow from '09 to take our our parents and my sister along with us. There will be a total of 9 of us.

Well said. It is such a small thing to apply so much importance and stress to. I think very few people hang out for long amounts of time in the room and even less outside on the balcony. When I am on vacation, i think I peek out the window once when we first get into the room. Can't remember really worrying about it much after that. :thumbsup2

For those that do, DVC is sure an expensive option. There are far cheaper and easier ways to hang out on a balcony with the view of a golf course or pond.

I feel that view is important, but not too much so for DVC. For SSR I feel that Congress Park, The Grandstands and The Springs are superior to the other 2. But the difference is not dramatic enough to worry about at this point. Do some research and see what seems to fit your needs best and put in those requests. Still, I'm sure you'll be satisfied with what you get at SSR. Realize that what's important to you may not be the same for the next person. For your stated situation I think Congress Park would be the best option.

Ditto Steph!

We always arrive in the am and I always tell them I'll be happy to wait for my preferred room. We then go touring around. Sometimes we go to DTD to shop and eat. This last time we toured around SSR, because it was our first trip home. If you don't mind waiting, you can usually get closer to your request.
