Would it be possible for someone who has the Canon 10-22mm lens (or similar) to post some pictures here showing the exact same view taken with the wide angle and then taken with the low end of a 28-135mm kit lens.

It is difficult to grasp exactly how much of a difference it would make using the 10-22mm vs what the kit lens would do.

Preferably shots of buildings inside or out, if you could.

Thanks

Thanks, that'll do the trick quite nicely. In fact, the first image showing 600mm thru 10mm is a fantastic find. Really illustrates well just how much difference there is between the various focal lengths.

Make sure when you look at images like this that you're looking on the same sized sensor that you have as well. They'll look different on a crop camera than they will on a full frame camera.

You can search by lens and camera on Flickr.

I don't remember who I stole it from, but I swiped this example off the internet before I reformed my ways and stopped all internet photo thievery.

But it seems to answer your question pretty well.

Very Interesting. Never would have thought that the difference would be so large.

Lenses: Canon 17 - 55mm f/2.8 and Tamron 10 - 24mm, f/3.5-4.5.

A friend loaned me the Tamron over Christmas and these were the first comparison shots I took with it on a crop camera. Wish I had done more comparisons like these...

In both instances, I was standing pretty much *almost* in the same spot. Building Security didn't allow me to set up a tripod; hand-held shots were acceptable.

Thanks for posting this one (we won't tell anyone how you got it!) It's another great example to help me decide whether the 10-22mm is in my future. If only these darn lenses weren't so expensive....

After looking at the examples presented here in response to my query, I'm really amazed at how much of a difference there is from 10mm to 28mm. I never would have guessed it was so. It definitely seems worth it to add a wide angle to my collection. There are so many places where that lens sure would have come in handy - especially in Disney World.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

And as a side note, I have both the 28-135 and the 10-22 and let me tell you the difference is HUGE. There is no comparison. 10mm is so wide that some times it's too wide in that I have to be careful not to get my own feet in the shot.

I always thought that photography was fun, but before I got the 10-22 I never realized how much fun a specific piece of equipment could be. But be careful, I think getting this lens was my first step towards "equipment acquisition addiction". It comes in handy in getting the shots you just can't get any other way, and it is just so much fun to use. Did I mention how much fun it is?

To quote Ferris Bueller, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

I had considered a 10-22, I own a Canon 17-40 f4L which on a crop body just gives about a 27mm. A friend who needed money a called and said she really needed to sell one of her Canon 5d's. She gave me a fair price so now my 17 is a 17! It's been so long since my wides were really wide it has taken some getting use too! Getting much closer to subjects has reminded how much distance affects depth of field.
