I'm looking at a flight with Frontier that has a connection by Republic Airlines. Does anyone have any experience with this airline? It makes me a little nervous, because there have been some stories in the news about these commuter airlines that haven't been very good with their safety, etc.

I have flown a few times with Republic who are "United Express" in my part of the world. Never had a problem. Nice crew, nice planes.

The only "incident" I've ever had was on a Skywest jet (also "United Express") that slid off the end of a slushy runway. By the way Skywest has never had a fatality since they began operating.

Most people who don't like regional airlines have an issue with the "small" planes they fly. I was a pilot so I've spent a lot of time in "small" planes so regional jets aren't all that small to me.:lmao:

There was something in the news awhile back about the low pay of the regional pilots and different safety standards, and it was a little scary. This was after a crash near Buffalo I think.

We're going to Yellowstone and flying into Bozeman, MT, which doesn't leave much choice but to fly on a regional carrier. The only other option would be to fly into Salt Lake City, but then that's kind of a drive over to Yellowstone.

There are other choices. You can fly into Jackson Hole, WY. I have done so on United (connecting in Denver) and there is at least one flight a day where they fly the Airbus 320 into Jackson Hole. I'm sure other airlines fly larger planes there as well.

Jackson Hole is very pricey. I'll keep watching it, but I pretty much eliminated it due to cost.

I would not be at all concerned. Republic is a wonderful airline with a sterling safety record and has never had a injury or fatality aboard its flights.

They don't fly little puddle-jumpers; their SMALLEST aircraft holds 70 passengers!

Republic also operates as USAirways Express. I like flying in their Embrarer 170, very comfortable and they also have full size overheads.

My DH is a pilot for Republic. He flies US Airways flights. PP is right, they fly nice (sometimes brand new) jets. Actually Republic now owns Frontier ;)
