Replacing iPhone Battery?

Do Iphone batteries often fail or not last very long? I have only had android phones and never had any battery issues. I agree was someone mentioned above, changing a battery on any sort of tiny electronic equipment likely takes special tools and skills to do correctly. You could also damage the device if you do something wrong. Seems like one of those things I would only have the experts do.

I usually keep a phone four to six years, have had iphones for the last few decades, and have not had any issues with batteries. The battery life and speed in charging does improves with each newer generation phone of course (one of many numerous nice features when I do do an upgrade). But as you can see I don't upgrade all that often.

My dad who is 88 and had the battery issue has a seven year old phone and preferred not to get a new phone. His preference at 88 was that he didn't want to have changes or have to learn to use any new features. Also he uses it primarily for phone calls and asking Siri an occasional question about that weather or the stock market (That's about it), so we were not concerned about him not being able to get the latest updates. He keeps it plugged in almost all the time which I'm sure is not good for the battery in that older generation iphone, and I'm sure contributed to the battery issues. Dad is happy and totally delighted with his new battery.

Rechargeable batteries, no matter iPhone, Android, AAA, etc only have so much of a life. They only have so many cycles, the amount of times they can be discharged and recharged, in them. Eventually all will stop working. For a long time most cell phone users were replacing their phones every two years as that's the way their contracts were set up with their providers so they never really noticed when the batter was starting to degrade. Now that the way we buy cell phones through the providers has changed people are starting to keep their cells phones longer and noticing their battery life is not as long as it was.

I ended up getting a new battery. I’ve had my phone over 2 years, and want it to last much longer so I think that was the best option. I happened to be in Nashville for other reasons so I went to the Apple Store there and had it done. $89 + tax. MUCH cheaper than a new phone!!!

DH just went to batteries plus
They tested to make sure it was the battery which it was
They plugged into something so he wouldn’t loose anthing that was on his phone
I think it only cost around 60$
Phone works great now

I replaced the battery on my XR this summer and I’m very happy I did. If you go into your battery in settings you can see the percentage it’s currently performing at. Once my battery went to 74% it was just draining too quickly and made the phone laggy and slow. It’s way better now.

It’s worth it to me to spend the money on the battery ( mine was $129 in Canada ). It will get me at least another two years from the phone, and allows me to get the lowest plan prices by bringing my own phone. 7 years from a phone is a decent amount of time. When this one finally gives up I’ll buy the newest model or one step down in cash and hopefully drag it’s life out the same.

ETA .. I won’t be doing any more major OS updates now though.
