We have a surplus of points for the current year, and are considering renting points out.

What can anyone who's done it tell me about renting points out through a broker--such as Davids--as opposed to doing it oneself?

TIA.

Mods--If this is in the wrong place, I'm sorry. Feel free to move if necessary.

I have rented points for several years here on the DIS rent trade board. I have never used a broker so I can't give you that side. But I beleive the difference is a set price and less hassle involvement on your part.
The easiest thing to do is to do a points transfer to another member. You are allowed 1 transfer either in or out per use year. But renting to non-members is not that difficult if you have the patience to look for their requests and needs and have the time to do so and follow up with items such as booking DME or adding a dining plan. I actually enjoy it as makes me feel like a travel agent and I love helping others plan magical vacations. I have had several repeat renters.

Hi, I do not own a dvc timeshare, but am interested in purchasing points from a dvc member that is not going to use them. But I have no idea how to do this. Can someone help?

Going through a broker makes it very easy on you. You will get less money, but will not have to search for a renter and all the additional steps.. If you do want to rent out you points directly, read the sticky on the rental boards.

Review the Rent\Trade board here in the DVC forum for info regarding renting a reservation from a DVC member (and that is the terminology, you are not purchasing points).
