Renting vs transfer?

Hi,
I am in need of extra points for 4 nights for F&W. I've been watching the rent board and see that some are doing transfers. Does this mean that you can rent points and then those points are transferred into your account? If so, does that mean you then have control over making the reservations yourself? And I think I read that transferred points can be banked, correct? If this is all correct, then it seems like it would be better to have points transferred instead of just renting them? Or is there something else I'm missing? I've never rented before and am nervous about completely trusting someone else to make the ressie.

You are right, transferingnin a good option, to have full control of your reservation. The only downside is that you can have only one transfer per membership per year, being in OR out. So people tend to do this only for a lot of points.

Thanks for the info. I shouldn't need another transfer in a year though, this is a special trip to bring my aunts who haven't been to WDW since it was just MK! Ok, I'll start looking for transfer offers, thanks again!!

The issue is not whether you will need more points before next year, but whether you can find someone willing to transfer 4 points - thus using up their ability to transfer again until the next Use Year. You would also need to find someone with the same Home Resort as you to take advantage of the 11 month Reservation Priority.

You might also consider using the "one-time-use" points available directly from DVC thru MS. These are $15 per point and for transfers up to 24 points a year. However, those points may only be used when making a reservation within 7 months.

You might also look at renting a reservation (not a transfer) for your family thru another member on the Rent/Trade Board or thru a DIS sponsor - www.DVCrequest.com .

Oops, that was a typo... I need 46 points. But I see what you mean and that it still may not be a good deal for someone else to do. I also didn't think about the points converting to my home resort... If I want BWV I will likely need the 11 month advantage. So guess renting is a better option. Thanks for sparing me the mistake!

46 points may be enough for someone to do a transfer so don't rule that out - but make sure you leave yourself enough time to still get the reservation as BWV is a very popular resort for F&W.

I misread your initial post as you needed only 4 points. I see now that you didn't mention the number of points needed so you still could be OK needing 46 points!
