renting Vistana timeshare

My parents own a 3br villa timeshare with vistana. their week comes up in March and they never use it. (we cant take the vacation time in March- otherwise we would stay there)

Is there an easy way for them to rent this out? They don't want to pay another company to do this for them. Is there a good website they can post it on? how much should they expect to get for the week? ( I guess it is a peak week for this property)? Any advice you have would be super!

There is a fee/membership to place an ad with the above sites. Then there is eBay.

In a pinch, Vistana will rent it out for them, but they'll take a percentage. We did this out of desperation one year when we couldn't go because we were caring for an ill family member and just needed something quick.

I didn't think so either ? I was wondering if they were selling the 1 bedroom lock-off of the Cascades bldgs as a seperate purchase ? They didn't used to, but maybe things have changed with Starwood ?

It belongs to my parents, so I'm not really sure which resort. They bought it 20 years ago, I think to be specific it is 2BR and a loft. I have only stayed there once and I was very young- (THEY NEVER USE IT!!!) SO frustrating. THey could really use the $$ this time around so I am trying to convince them to rent it out that week. But they will expend absolutely zero effort to do this- I guess they would just rather waste their money. But it's getting close to their week, so I will pass on this info. Oh....your parents most likely own in the Courts section. There are loft townhomes there. I do believe these units are fixed week units. You can definitely try and rent these out via the links in the previous posts, or as a last ditch effort, see if Vistana can do it by calling the owner's number. I would try and rent it out yourself before I'd let Vistana do it because they'll take a percentage of the rent for their commission. Best of luck. It's a shame your parents just pay maintenance fees every year and never use it. They should just sell it for whatever they can get to avoid throwing their money away.

I agree that they should just sell it if they aren't going to use it. They may not get much at all for it, particularly if it's in the Courts, but those maintenance fees are not cheap.

You say you can't use it in March, but for a fee you could probably change it to another time of year, or they could exchange it through RCI for a resort somewhere else. Better than letting it sit idle.

they NEVER use their timeshare. so sorry!!!

maybe you could take it off their hands and sell it - at least then they won't be paying that maintence fee every year.

A couple of more options for you:

Ebay

1) List it yourself on ebay. I just got back from Orlando and rented through an owner who listed on ebay.


2) Renting_Resorts - Ebay seller ID for someone who rents weeks for owners through ebay (basically, taking care of the listing, payment, etc.). I haven't used them, but someone who was using them posted about it and said that's what the seller does.
