Hello Fellow DISers!

I am not a DVC member but I have rented points for DVC resorts at WDW many times off the rent/trade board. I'm wondering though, is it possible to rent points from someone and have them make me reservation at one of the Disneyland hotels?

If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate your insights!

Thanks!
Stacey

While it is possible, you will not generally find the same savings by renting for anything other than DVC resort stays. Depending upon the time of year and how much you pay to rent, the savings may only be 5%, whereas you will generally save 25%+ renting at a DVC resort. It may even cost you more! And the availability to DVC members on points is much more limited; so even if you see availability online, we may not be able to book it on points.

Most people are not willing to take the risk of renting (and the extra effort it takes!) for such a small savings.

I had always thought the same thing but when recently pricing a trip for Disneyland for late Feb. 09 the rooms were around $400 per night...... It looked like (based on the 2008 point chart) for the time of year we are going the rooms would be close to half the price....in the low-mid $200's. That's the only reason I was considering it.

I rented points last spring for a trip to Disneyland in June. We rented enough points for 2 premium view rooms @ the Disneyland Hotel. I saved about $600. The experience was fun. It was our 25th anniversary and we took the whole family to Disneyland- DH, me, DS (11), DD (17), DD (23), and DSIL (28). That's why we had to rent 2 rooms. We probably will not go again - only because we live in SC. The renting of points worked out for us. We rented from a couple who live in Corona, Ca and they were willing and able to give us great advice about the area. I think if you found a good rate for renting points it is a good choice. And you don't have to pay the resort fee if you rent points. The only thing I would have done differently is stay @ the Grand Californian instead of the Disneyland Hotel. It is closer to the parks and much nicer. Would have only been about $200 more.

Depending on the time of your visit, you may be able to find some very attractive cash rates, escpecially if you buy an annual pass. I think the Fall AP rates at the Paradise Pier hotel this fall started at $139 per night. The best rates are usually in the Fall and Spring, with very few discounts during Holidays or summer.

Once the rates start hitting $200 or so, we tend to stay at a nearby off-site hotel like the Sheraton.

Best of luck-- Suzanne

I do think historically during off times DLR has given significant discounts for stays longer than 3 days.
