Renting Questions

I didn't know which thread to put this on.

Well, my question is... If I rent points, can I get the DDP? We're considering doing VWL instead of the Poly for our honeymoon, but I have no clue about how renting points goes as far as getting tickets and the DDP.

Yes, you can add DDP. DVC points stays do not require a ticket purchase. The member will need to call to add it to your reservation. Same price as CRO charges.

Will I run into any problems?

Like, basically, I'd just find someone to rent from, ask them to book our stay + DxDDP, and then would it be under my name? Do I have to "pretend" to be the person? Or is renting out points to others okay? Then I buy my tickets on my own?

Yes, we are permitted to rent reservations at our DVC resorts. They will be in your name, however, there is no way for you to confirm the reservation with Member Services. The DVC owner should supply you with a copy of the written confirmation from DVC. Allow time for it to arrive the mail, it is sent to the owner, and the owner has to send it to you. Renting depends upon trust. You trust the owner to make the reservation, and to not cancel the reservation before your arrival (the owner always maintains control of the reservation.) They owner trusts you to make payments as agreed upon, and to not cancel. Most owners have a no refund policy in the event of a cancellation.

Yes, you are on your own as far as park tickets.

You do not pay the owner for the Dining Plan. The owner only signs you up for it.

You will pay for the Dining Plan when you check-in.

Also, I would recommend renting from a DISer who has a large number of posts on many subjects, not someone who has just signed up to rent out their points. And any good DISer will have a contract available for you to look at prior to moving forward. (If you'd like to see an example, PM me and I'd be happy to email you a copy. Spend some time on the Rent/Trade boards to get an idea of what the current market looks like. It can seem intimidating, but if you do your homework and really look for the right owner, you shouldn't have any problems.

also on the reservation that you get - it won't show the DDP as such.

so you need to call the member and make sure they added it.
