Good morning,

First off, thanks to those that helped me out previously with my questions regarding renting DVC points and how it all works. Everyone was a big help. Now I have another question.

How does payment generally work between the renter and the owner? Is it a set amount each month, paid in full or is it up to the two parties to work out?

We will be able to start setting the money aside for October 2008 within the next month or so and was wondering how this part of it works.

It's up to the two parties to work out the payment schedule. There can be as many variations as there are rental agreements.

it's a transaction between two individuals. many owners charge 50% upfront to make the reservation and the remainder 2-3 months prior to the date of the reservation...but whatever terms the owner sets may or may not be negotiable.

Some members will require a deposit to make the reservation and full payment once the confirmation is received. So don't plan on making payments until you leave. More than likely you will have to pay it up fully at least 60 days ahead of time.

Remember, too, that the member might not refund any of your payment already made if you have to cancel.

We've always paid half when the written confirmation was received, and the
other half 60 days before the trip. It's worked out great. Last January we
took a last minute trip and paid in full using PayPal. It worked out great as

As indicated, it is up to the owner to set the payment schedule. Keep in mind that not all reservations are created equal. If you pay a member to make a reservation that ends up being late in his/her use year, you may have to pay in full earlier and probably will have very little cancellation options since those points will be almost useless to the owner if you back out.

So the payment schedule might even be different for the same owner for different reservations, for perfectly valid reasons.
