I scoured the FAQ's but didn't see it...can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm renting....

What can/can't I do?

Pool hop to other DVC resorts (Stormalong)?
Valet park for free?
Get DVC discount.

I've rented before....& knew this at one time..but completely forget. (the only thing we ever took advantage of was the DVC discount at Fulton's...but it never hurts to know...just in case). Am I forgetting anything else? Thanks for any help whatsoever.

Hi,

I think I can help some!

Valet parking is free for everyone I believe. If your renting or a member. Anyone back me up.

I believe you can get discounts as well. Your key card will say DVC on it.

I am not sure about your last ?! Hope this helps!!!

The technical answers is none of the above. However, DVC has shown no interest in controlling this issue. That means you're room card will likely say member on it and that you will get all of the perks you mentioned. I'd recommend you have the member you're renting from sent you the info from the member website. You may want to tell them you know you may not get any benefits but would like to be prepared just in case.

There are a couple of benefits available ONLY to the member and not even their guests. The one they enforce is the member cash discount. They do not enforce this issue with the 10% discount on UMP.

Pool hopping is prohibited at BCV (Stormalong Bay) and AKL. You can only access those pools if you are staying at the respective resort.

Hopping to all other pools is currently permitted, but that may change at any time.

And pool hopping is closed for all DVC Members at certain times of the year- mostly around holiday times. Also, you can't pool hop to AKL as well as SAB.

oh my.....I apologize....

I'm sorry I didn't get back here sooner to clear some things up.

#1- I meant EXCEPT Stormalong in the pool hopping reference. LOl...I can't believe I didn't type the word 'except'. yes...I knew about Stormalong...I had forgotten about AKL...

wooo....sorry about that.....ehhhhh....who has time to poolhop anyway?

#2- Dean....really? ACKKKK!!! I had been told that it was fully acceptable for some of the above mentioned things. I had no idea it wasn't. I thought that I had verified it here on the boards before my last trip. I would have NEVER brought it up otherwise. Sorry guys...like I said before...the only thing that was really nice anyway was the discount at some restaurants. My DH is weird & so far has always refused to valet.

 eek...well...I'm glad I asked...now I know. Trust me..I doubt many renters are using the above hardly at all, & I'm certainly not one to use anthing that i shouldn't be. I didn't know.

THANKS!! DVC'ers are always so helpful.

We rented points for our November 2003 trip to OKW and our keys/cards did not say Member, they said Guest.

By the way, renting points is a great first step to try out DVC...obviously we came home as members, buying 300 points while we were there!

I think they are tightening up on the "members" and "guests" thing. We had guests staying with us this trip, and some of restaurants that had DVC discounts would not give the discount to our guests even when we said they were staying with us. They were using their own credit card, so they were not given the discount.

I've heard when you get the free valet parking, they ask to see your DVC membership card.

I know the restaurants asked for our blue DVC membership card for the restaurant discounts. So I would think they are tightening up on some of the things mentioned in your post.

I know it's happened but it's in violation of the stated rules currently. Just another example of the restaurants not knowing what's going on.
