Can someone explain renting points to me?
I read the FAQ but am not I understand the overall concept.

Are these points these people are not going to use and are trying to get some value for them?

Can they be used anywhere?

Please help me understand.

Thanks alot

DVC owners use "points" to make reservations; a particular night in a particular unit will cost some set amount of "points." When you rent from a DVC owner, you do not actually rent the points although it is referred to as that. What really happens is that owner sets up your reservation in your name for the time you want to go and room type, uses his "points" to make the ressie, and then charges you rent based on a price per point for total points used. For example if you want 5 nights in a studio and the owners cost is 100 points, he will charge you rent based on a price per point such as $10 a point or $1,000 total.

DVC owners can make reservations for others at any DVC resort and any non-DVC Disney hotel. However, it is best to rent from a DVC member for a DVC resort because the cost to the renter is less than going through Disney for cash reservations at the same resort. Point cost to that member in getting a reservation at a non-DVC resort is very high and the cost of renting from the member for such a resort could be higher than just renting through Disney.
