renting points

Hi. How far in advance can you rent points? I am a junior in college and my friends and i want to take one last trip together before we graduate in may of '09. its going to be about 8 of us so we think we want a 2 Bedroom Villa at Boardwalk. We want to know we will have enough money, therefore we want to do it somewhat early. also is staying in a villa worth it or should we jsut get two rooms at a value resort? thanks!

DVC member can make reservations at the home DVC resort 11 months prior to the check-out date. So you should maybe start looking about 1 year in advance, if you want to rent a reservation from a DVC member.

However, given your circumstances, being college "kids" there is always the problem of getting the cash together, etc. The rental agreement is fully between you and the DVC member...and often the transaction is considereded final...no date changes, no refunds. So, personally, again given the things that can happen, you would most likely be better off getting 2 value resort rooms through Disney...that way you have a lot more flexibility to make changes, and payment arrangements.

The other thing to consider is that a two bedroom will have the following layout:

1 master bedroom with a king bed - access to a master bathroom with a Jacuzzi.
1 bedroom with a full sized pullout and a queen bed - a bathroom in this room.
1 livng room with a queen pullout (is set up to use the Master bath).

(I think my sizes are right on the queen/fulls)

So it will sleep eight - but it will not sleep eight "evenly and fairly." This may or may not cause contention with your friends.


The real issue, as Chuck said, is that as your friends back out, you could very well be holding the bag for a room that cannot be changed nor the money refunded.
