The transfer system change to the normal doesn't hurt renting points to people that can't afford disney any other way. Have you checked out the savings renting with dvc members. About making money renting points, I thought making money was what we were all about. If you were smart enough to buy cheap in the early years then, you can make money. I bought 1,410 points over the past two years at $70.00 dollars per point. At that price I can offer points to people and make it worth my while. If you pay over $85.00 per point its not feasible to rent. Don't put me down for wanting to rent points. If people didn't buy to rent , disney would not build as many resorts, and you would not have the choice you have. Don't spit at the hand that helps build an empire for all to enjoy.

Better put on your flame suit pal!!! :firefight
I hope you aren't morphing those points into hundreds of BCV points and renting out reservations on eBay. Prepare to be crucified! I don't think you'll find a lot of supporters 'round these parts.

I rent and or give points to people I know, or people they know. It sounds to me some people are bitter because they don't have more points. I live in florida and enjoy disney and help others enjoy also. I understand disney allows a member to own up to 2,000 points per resort. They can't think a person visits disney or other resorts they have that much. I have talked with disney and was told some members own up to 5,000 points.

So it is you that eats up all the prime dates and then puts them on the market for non-owners to enjoy instead of those that plopped down thousands to own a peice of magic!?

I don't pre book reservations, I book when someone is looking for a specific time and resort. Your reply dosn't go to my thread or reply. My thread goes to the fact disney allows members to buy lots of points. If you go to the disboards you can't think all those points are left overs that members didn't use. On any given there are about 1,000 points rented or transfered. Why is there a dis board, if not to help people rent points. If you bought low you can make some money . It is a business like flea markets etc..

We are all aware of how many points DVC allows people to own....I'm not sure what case you are trying to make. Commercial renters are not very well liked around here for obvious reasons. DIS DVCers are not stupid, we see what goes on sometimes over on the R/T board, but that doesn't mean we condone it. I would think someone who is renting for profit might want to keep that info to themselves right about now, given Disney's recently stated position on this issue. I also doubt that people will take kindly to you comparing DVC rentals to a flea market.......

Sorry, OP, but I think it is wrong to assume that every person or entity that owns a large chunk of points rents them out for $$. Some are owned by wealthy individuals that live overseas and take extended US vacations. Others are owned by corporations for use by their executives and as employee perks. True, there are some large owners that bought to rent, but all of our documents state that is an unwise investment and not the use that DVC was "sold for."

:thumbsup2 Well put.

I have only been a dvc owner for a year, but I purchased resale. I did rent out points once. Had no choice because the points were banked and had to be used otherwise I would lose them. Had a small baby at home at and two other small children and simply could not go. Renting points helped me with my maintanance fees tremendously and helped a young couple w/ small children afford to go to disney for 3 days. Between the costs of park passes and travel and maintenance fees, it may not always be possible for us to go two or three times a year. So if I rent points to someone whats the difference if I go or if someone else goes. I would only rent to somebody with specific dates in mind and only someone who I'm positive will use it.

Your situation is not the type of commercial renting that is being discussed here. I don't think anyone has a problem with the occasional rental, including Disney. What we do have an issue with is those who buy points, or worse yet have them transferred in, with the sole purpose of renting them out to run a business. This type of activity reduces availability for members and it's those activities that Disney is trying to curb with the enforcement of the rules. The OP in this post is not making much effort the conceal the fact that he is renting for profit and I think it stinks. :badpc:

I have no problem with renting excess points. Perhaps you purchased in anticipation of needing more points in future years or perhaps things have changed and you don't need as many now. Renting is an efficient way of managing these issues without selling your ownership outright.

Take that one step further and I don't have a problem with renting these excess points in the form of reservations during prime weeks to maximize value. What's the difference between making a rental reservation for someone at 11 months (for $10) and making the same reservation in anticipation of someone requesting it (for $13). More money and fewer calls to MS.

I do have a real issue with the reselling of transferred points for profit (due to the nature of the DVC systems limitations on tracking home resort, etc). The OP falls into the renting owned points for profit which is probably not a wise long term investment. Regardless, I think DVC is going to have a hard time actually cancelling one of these reservations.
