Renting Points through David's vs. DVCRentalStore?

Hi DVC friends! We are not DVC owners but have rented points through David's for years. We recently put in a request (11 months out on the dot) and although the room is available, there are no owners right now available to rent it for us. Someone suggested we try DVCRentalStore so we put in a request through them and I suspect we will hear the same thing. I don't want to have a deposit down with both of them, so I am trying to decide which "queue" to stay in. I do like that DVC Rental does not require you to pay in full at the time of booking, but we have always been happy with David's.

Does anyone know if one has more DVC members signed up? Are there any other reasons to choose one "waitlist" vs. the other?

Thank you!

One way to judge popularity is to look at how many followers their accounts have on social media. I have no idea if DVC members tend to prefer one or the other when renting out points. I have used one, but only once, so I have no strong feelings either way.

It's completely random which will have owners with the correct points, meaning not just home resort but UY and quantity.

You might try finding an owner on these boards. I offered to rent some distressed points here in March. The process was painless and finished in day. If we do rent points for our own vacations I will definitely be looking on these boards.

We have previously rented through David's (about 7 times). Everything went smoothly.

I believe that David's is still the biggest, so they tend to have more owners putting their points through them, but you don't need lots of owners, you just need the one that has the points you need!

I think both are finding it harder to find owners to match points they need these days as are there are far more options for renting directly (such as forums like this and social media), and the cut the brokers take has made a lot of owners choose to do it for themselves.

I appreciate the security that brokers offer, which is why I put my own points with David's for years, but if it's a specific time you really want you may want to look elsewhere.

Here is my experience: Rented through DVC Rentals for a 2 bedroom May 2022 Riviera, no issues. Loved that I could put deposit down and pay balance 75 days before stay.
Made reservation for May 2023, put deposit down. Plans changed, was able to cancel and my deposit is good through May 2026. Rebooked for May 2025, deposit applied. Easy process, no problem. I have used David’s in the past, no cancellations policy is a tough one. Life happens. So happy I use DVC Rentals now. They get it. Just my two cents. Happy to answer any questions.

During the pandemic, David's got a significant black eye with how they treated their customers and the DVC owners whose points they were renting. Their solution, after finding out their new policy wasn't completely legal under the original DVC Owner-David's contract, was to write a new DVC owner-David's contract totally in David's favor. That turned off a lot of owners, and allowed much smaller players, like DVCRentalStore, to gain market share. I, personally, would never use David's again to rent my points. The last two times I had extra points, I rented them here on Disboards.

David’s was larger for years. I think DVC Rental Store is probably just as big now as they do WAY more marketing. But David’s is virtually always less expensive (or the same).

Seems like David’s pays the owners more too. DVC Rental Store says they pay the most, which might be true for a very small number of locations, but not for most. They appear to pay less for most points.

I sort of think if I have extra points to rent some year, I will just write up a contract and ask around at work and see if coworkers want to rent from me; sounds potentially easier.

I have used David's twice to rent points after the Covid shutdown. Absolutely no complaints. They were easy to work with and paid quickly. While I might have been able to get more, if I tried to rent directly, I didn't want that hassle. Seemed like a good company to work with. No experience with DVC Rental Store.

FYI in case this is relevant to any owners looking to rent CCV points: DVC Rental Store just dropped their CCV 7-11 months to $16 from $18 (David's is still $18). Passing along as it was very recent.
Plus, be careful and vigilant about their flexible pricing. Twice I've grabbed a rental request at $16 PP only to have the contract written up at $14 PP. They move pricing around all the time, and both times the left hand had adjusted the price down to 414, while the right hand still had the points listed on the web site at the original $16 price. They corrected the contracts both times, but you do need to keep an eye out. They lower prices all the time and if it takes a while for the renter to commit or for the coordinator to get back to you, their database may be updated in the interim.

They want to pay $14 per point for Beach Club too it appears. That’s just dumb. I guess it’s past the seven month mark, but good luck getting that reservation request filled…

Bay Lake during 7-11 months is also $16/pt. Why not just use David’s if you are going to rent through a company? I did some quick math on DVC Rental Store’s “sale” reservations and they are earning 42 to 57% of the profit the owner takes home. Not a fan.

Yeah, strange - and I've been following the request inventory and they're receiving them for CCV and BLT so who knows what's driving their strategy. For me it was just a small number of points this year, and I just decided to keep and upgrade to 1BR for our trip instead. But if I ever find myself needing to rent again, will go w/ David's.
