Renting Points - The Basics?

Hi Gang,

Which points can and cannot be rented?

Banked Points - Cannot be rented
Current Points - Can be rented
Borrowed Points - ???

How about 2005 points that expire Feb. 28th, 2006. Can they be rented now (current year) and the renter make a reservation beyond Feb. 28th, 2006 or bank them?

Can current reservation in owners name be rented and reservation name changed? I will assume it can, as deposits to SFX are done in this manner... anyone?

There are rules about which points can be transferred to another member for them to make their own reservations. I'll let the experts on the subject tackle it for you.

But, any point that can make a reservation can be used for rentals. You just have to make the reservation and then rent the reservation to someone -- rather than the points.

[SIZE=+0]There are 2 different ways to rent out your points:

1. Taking those points, making a reservation in a renter's name, and then renting out the reservation in exchange for payment. This means that any points that are valid for making a reservation can be rented. Don't get bogged down with the Use Year, or banked/borrowed/current status. If you can book a reservation, then that reservation can be rented.
2. Transferring those points to another DVC member in exchange for payment. This involves following complex rules/guidelines. For transfer rules (probably more info than you want ), look over the link in my sig.

regarding rental of reservations, beware that you may be liable (to what degree is debatable) for the conduct of the people you rent the reservation out to. this includes stuff like damage to rooms, unpaid room expenses, etc.

you can get by the "liability" factor by simply renting out points instead of a reservation.
