My family is looking at visiting in May but we have a large family of 8, so we need a 2 bedroom villa and we plan to stay a week. All of these things make the points needed to stay more than people usually have listed. I am wondering if it is ok to rent points from one member for part of the stay then find another renter for the second part of the stay to extend the stay? As you can see I am a newbie to this please help. Thanks

I would not recommend as you would have two different reservations meaning you would have to pack up and move out, wait for a new room on that day.

Try to find someone to rent you the entire week or use a broker.

As Sammie said, I would not want to do it. You have to look at it this way, you are not really renting points but renting a reservation from a member. This means 2 reservations.

One thing you could do is book a 1br villa from one member and a studio from another, then tell MS you are friends and want to be as close as possible, if possible in a lockoff 2br. That could work and point requirement would be similar to a 2br.

Wouldn't the problem be solved if MS could link the reservations.:confused3

Member Services can link the two reservations; I think the problem is that the MEMBER(s) (probably both) are going to have to get on the line with MS to make this happen. The renter can't have Member Services do it.

You have to remember that points are worthless to you as a non-member. You can't do anything with the points. You are just purchasing a reservation that a member made with their points. So you have two separate reservations from two different members. If they weren't the exact same booking category, you would definitely have to move.

Thanks for your help. I figured that would be more hassle than it would be worth trying to link things or make two separate reservations and not picking up and moving. I appreciate your information.

We rented many times before we were members, and once we needed more points than the member had. We rented from two people, making sure that the rooms were the same category (in our case, 2 bdrm, preferred view, BWV). I gave the reservation number for the first half of the stay to the second person we rented from, and she gave that first reservation number to Member Services when she booked the second half of our stay. So, there was a record in the second reservation that we would already be at the resort. When we checked in, I asked at the front desk to see if there was a way to ensure we would stay in the same room. The manager took down all of our pertinent information and called back the next day to say we would not have to move. It was not a guarantee at booking, but it did not appear to be an unusual request.

That way would be more expensive (1 BR + studio = more points than a 2BR) and MUCH less likely to work than getting the two owners to each book some of the nights and request them to be linked. When you're looking for owners, just ask if they would be willing to do this for you (request the link). If not, keep looking.

If you are reserving the same room size and view, it is possible to link two reservations together so you don't have to switch rooms. I've done this a number of times. The first few times I had just the confirmation number of the reservation I wanted to link to and the CM were able to link that reservation with mine no problem. Just last week though when I went to link another two reservations I was told that both members have to be on the phone at the same time. I even had the CM check with the manger to confirm that that both members had to be on the phone at the same time. Sadly that was the case so ended up doing a three way call.

So it is possible, just means a little extra work for the two people you would be renting from.
