I have rented points from an owner before, so I know how to do that. What I want to know is can I then buy the dining plan? Also would love to hear any advice on being in the World for Thanksgiving weekend. We have been several times before and I know after the weekend is best, but the kids are at an age where I cannot pull them from school

Yes, you can have the member you rented from add a dining plan to the room reservation. Since Oct 14, the dining plan must be paid for when added to the room reservation.

Provided your member is willing to do it, which they may or may not be due to the added complications of paying for it in advance (vs. previously when you paid at check-in and the owner wasn't involved in the payment for the DDP).

As PP said, the dining plan must be paid for at the time it is added to the ressie - which is a bit tricky without the renter having to give the member their credit card number.

I recently added the dining plan to a reservation for someone I rented to - she got a Visa debit card for the exact amount of the dining plan. She gave me the number over the phone then I called it in to DVC. It worked well. If you do this, make sure you give the owner the card#, along with the code on the back and the full name of the person who purchased the card.

Also - hopefully you're asking about next year because the dining plan must be added at least 2 days before the arrival date (I think that's correct).

Can't help you out with recommendations during a busy holiday; we've tended to avoid those times :confused3

This is a great idea! I need to remember this for the next time that we rent out our points.

Would it be easier for the renter to give the DVC Owner a disney gift card to pay for the DDP than the visa debit card? or maybe just the same?

I think the main difference is that Disney Gift Cards are free to purchase. Many of the Gift Cards with either the Visa or MasterCard logos have activation fees. As for using one or the other to pay for the dining plan, I see no difference there.

Thats a great idea. You could also use your Disney rewards card since they have expiration dates as well.

When I first inquired, MS said credit card or Disney gift card so I checked them out online (http://www.disneygiftcard.com/home/). Looks like they only come in certain denominations (e.g., $25, $50, $100, $200...) - maybe there are other ones for exact amounts? The renter would need to get many of them to add up to the total and still not have the exact amount. She's the one who offered to simply get a Visa debit card.
