I have only rented points once before-so i have a question about how the reservations work. Once the renter has paid the balance in full and the owner has made the reservation with disney in the renters name-can the owner call back in at a later date and cancel out the reservation without the renters knowledge?

Anotherwards if anything were to happen to the reservation would disney contact the renter or does the renter put faith in the owner that this would never happen?

The one time i rented points everything went great-i just want to make sure i know how things work!

Thanks in advance!!

Disney would not contact you- an owner could cancel if they so choose to do so.

The OWNER of the points hold all the cards. They can call and cancel, or modify the reservation in any way they want whenever they want. DVC will NEVER contact the renter regarding anything that has to do with changes made. If renter keeps your address on file for the reservation then they may send you a updated reservation sheet BUT if OWNER removes your name and address from the reservation then you the RENTER will not be notified of anyting.

That is a whole lot of trust and eggs to put in one basket......BUT there are some very trust worthly DVC owners out there.......I am one of them. I like to keep my renters in the loop regarding everything, from the start of the reservation all the way to the end.

Disney does not get involved in this reservation at all. It's between you and the owner. They could change the name on the reservation the day before you arrived if they wished. Just find someone you really trust and get to know them.

Like everyone said, it's between you and the member only.

The upside: You get a deal for your accommodation
Downside: You have to trust another person with it.

If you're not the kind of person who's willing to take a risk, this is not something you might want to do regularly. That's why I rent my points, and never rented points myself.
I'm too nervous to rent from someone else... isn't that wild? :lmao:
This is also why when I rent my points I make sure that they have 0 concern. Because I treat them like I want to be treated as a renter.

I just post this suggestion on another thread. If you find a good member to rent from keep their information and you will reduce the anxiety of renting :thumbsup2

Of course once you arrive at the resort the DVC member has to totally trust you that the room will not be damaged since from my understanding Disney will go after the DVC member.

This is why a lot of renters stick with the same DVC owner. They have built a relationship. I have a owner in Hawaii that I rent from. Will only rent from her. Flew all the way to Hawaii a nervous wreck one time, will not do it again. Have rented from her 3 times. Why change?
