Renting points for ABD trip

Hi, we are new DVC members in need of advice! We are planning on doing the ABD Viva Italia trip spring of 2010. We have been planning on using some of our points to pay for one member of our party. Wow, it takes 486 pts for one person if we go that route and that's for 2009, i don't know yet what the point chart will look like for 2010!! That is a lot of points!! We have *** but i started looking at renting points and its seems like that would be a more cost effective method. I have obviously never done the renting thing and am a little intimidated by it. Does renting seem like the best decision and how much trouble is it REALLY to do this?? I could really use some advice by all of you seasoned DVC members! Thanks in advance for any input!!

At $10.00 a point that is ** per person if you book early it would be a great deal less than that.

When i checked the ABD site, the 09 rate is around $3699 for that time of year. I am sure it will be more for 2010 but still better to pay cash than to use our points for it. I definitely need someone who has rented their points out to help me through the process. It sure would be nice to have some points left over for a future trip instead of blowing so many of them for ABD.

No way is renting points for ABD a good deal - the price directly through Disney (especially if you purchase early) is far better. Save your points, save the hassle of renting and pay cash.

ETA - but you mean renting out your own points to offset the ABD cash cost, right?

Yes Tara, i am only looking at renting out the points to offset the cost of ABD. My dear parents want to go on ABD trip on points but i think its a rotten use of points and am looking at alternatives.

I believe The OP is looking for information on how easy it would be for her to rent her own points to someone else so that she has cash for the ABD trip - not about renting points to use for the trip.

Have you looked at the rent/trade board? I haven't ever rented out points but lots of people seem to. It may take some work but it would seem to be more economical than using your points for the ABD trip. I'd give it a try first. I think that the DP's that expire in Oct had kind of flooded the rental market but maybe you'll have a better chance. now.
