Has anyone rented their points before?

How does it work?

Thanks Cheryl

We only rent to family and close friends. You make the reservations for them as your guests, giving member services their name. The only real difference from the way you normally do things is, you won't be checking in :(

You can charge whatever you wish for the stay. The easiest and most fair to you, would be to charge $$ per point as opposed to a per night basis.

If you're wondering how to rent out to "anyone", and specifically, how to get in touch with potential renters you don't know...I have no idea. Never done that.

You can check out the DVC Rent/Trade Board here on the site. there is a FAQ for the board which will answer some of your questions about renting.

If you have other questions, please ask.

thanks

I read about deposits.
what normally is done regarding deposits?
Contracts - is one needed? Anyone have a sample contract ?

If any other members who have done this before want to send me tips my email is cherylp3@yahoo.com

We never thought we would ever rent points but due to other comitments and not to mention a 123 day military rotation we were unable to use the points as we wanted. We advertised on the rent board and a lovely family from Comack NY answered the ad. Well I thought they had shown williing in answering our add asking for 11.00 per head, So I called on the phone and they sent letters and e mails we settled for 10.5 per point, it cost a fortune to phone from this country to make the ressie, but everything went well the checks appeared on time and I had the satisfaction of thinking about them whilst serving on THE PSAB Base in Saudi Arabia.

They had a good vacation, which I was glad to hear about.

Remember the word TRUST.................

Last year I had to cancel a ressie because I had made for my Dad because he got too sick with his Leukemia. I couldn't use them and couldn't bank them so I rented them. I simply put an add on the rent/trade board. I got lots of e-mails which I followed up and rented the points to three different people who had lovely albeit short vacations. They simply sent me checks. If the checks had bounced I would have cancelled the ressies but that wasn't a problem. The nastiest part was all the long-distance phone calls to get everything situated. The system definitely works if the trust is there.

We didn't use any contracts or anything. It was all done by gentlemen's agreement though I did mail the confirmations to the renters when I received them.
