I am currently in the process of purchasing my first contract. I am 100% looking to rent out my 2016 UY points. I have been on the Rent/Trade forum looking for info but I can't really see how the process works just the listings. I understand I advertise my points for the dollar amount I want. What are the next steps after I get a response for a reservation? Does anyone have any advice from experience like up front payment amount and balance due by date? Has anyone ever asked for 100% payment when the reservation is made? I see a lot of postings use PayPal. Is that the best option? I don't mind doing the rental process myself but just want to make sure I cover everything on my end.

Use a rental service until you are more experienced with the whole process. We have owned dvc for years and years and still use a service for point rentals.

Depending on where your points are, you can get $13 per point with a rental agency. They walk you thru the whole thing and if something were to go wrong, you would have some help in collecting restitution from the renter.

I agree. With being a brand-new member as well as first time renting, I'd use a broker. If you do it yourself, you may get people with a lot of questions that you're not really ready to answer.

Under your DVC agreement with Disney, you must use a rental agreement if you rent points. If you don't have one, a broker will be a huge help.

We have been DVC members since 1992 and have rented and transferred our points many times when we were unable to use them. There's a first time for everything, so if you plan to rent out points go ahead and post them on the rental board. You will usually get inquiries quickly, usually get more for your points, and get paid quicker, too.

Carol MN posted DVC rental agreements -- use one.

We always ask for total payment at the time of rental or transfer. Papal is an option, and many renters request any PayPal fees be paid by the renter. Many banks now have bank transfers, so if you and the renter both have a common bank account there is no fee.

I am a long time OKW owner and have rented my extra points out many times. I use a rental contract and stipulate that full payment be made within weeks of signing contract and that there are no refunds or cancellations. If necessary I offer to help client reschedule, but once rented the points are theirs with no obligation for me to do anything else. I retain control of points, meaning they can not rent the points to a third party.

I've rented my Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Beach Club Villas Resort points out many times.

I get paid upfront and in my rental agreement I tell the renter that my points, much like airline tickets, are non refundable. I have only had one renter ask me if he could back out (because he was laid off from work and a vacation was not possible) Since his vacation was at the beginning of my use year, I had no problem doing that. But if he'd rented points, and at the last minute told me he couldn't go, I would not be able to refund anything. That's why I state very clearly that I cannot, and will not, refund any monies from the rental of my points.

I get paid by PayPal and I accept credit cards. It makes my life easier. But there has been, more than a couple of times in fact, where I accepted payment by personal check.
