renting my unused points through a broker

Well I used him once, but before I did I posted on disboards to find out if anyone knew of him or his service. A few people posted he's been around for years and no one had ever heard anything bad about him.

I felt more secure using him than I would have if I had tried to rent out points on my own. He supplied contracts that both the member and renter had to sign. He expects a 100% non refundable deposit from the renter at the time of the reservation booking, and sends the owner 50% of that. When the renter checks into the hotel, the owner is immediately sent the other 50% (via paypal)

He does need to stay on your membership as an associate until the renter checks in. On check in day, I went online and deleted him as an associate member.

I think he supplies a service to DVC members. I know this was the first time in 8 years that I had points that I would rather rent than bank and he had the know-how that I didn't.

I would have no qualms about using his service as an owner and if I were a renter it would be the way to go.

50% + 50% = 100%. He does this for free?

50% + 50% = 100%. He does this for free?

No, He doesn't do it for free, He pays the dvc owner one price, upcharges the renter another price. He controls the money. He is the middle man. I don't know why he collects the money upfront, then pays the DVC owner when the renter checks in. What if this is a 11 month booking? Is he making interest the whole time? I would not do it. It's easier to rent the points yourself and make the money yourself.

He even has a ad running on the Homepage of Redweek. I had to book my son's honeymoon for Hawaii. His ad comes and goes. It was there one day, but not the next.

To just add this, I have not heard any complaints either. If, someone really does not want to rent, but has points that are going to expire, then maybe he is their answer.

Thanks for all your info. he charges $3.00 a point the person with the points gets $10.00

50% + 50% = 100%. He does this for free?

Sorry, not as thorough in my post as I thought I was.

When I used his site, he got $14 per point and I got $11 of that. The going rate on the disboards at that time was $10 per point so I most likely ended up with $1 more per point than if I had done it myself, and I didn't have to sift through a bunch of emails or pms. I didn't care if he made money on the transaction. The middle man always makes money.

And I believe he hangs onto the remainder of the 50% deposit to protect the renter. They are taking the risk that the DVC member could cancel the reservation before the renter checks in. As is mentioned again and again, renting takes a lot of trust on both sides.

Right now I think his price is $13 and the member gets $11.

Can an associate owner cause that much harm? I don't think they can really rip you off. If the guy got really mean, I think he could put you in a bad place by banking or borrowing points. But there's no reason for him to do that, unless he just goes crazy.

If he were a blood relative, I would not add him as an associate, much less, some anonymous person who resides and hopefully abides by the laws of another country.

Good luck if he does go "crazy", since putting a website up is not a sign of sanity.

Rent the points yourself, keep the extra $ and you don't have anyone as an associate member on your personal property.

Noreendisfour said it right when he said he didn't need to go through PM's and e mails................ and of course the hassle factor. I just don't have the time [as you can see only 56 posts since in almost 9 years] or knowhow. Will post to let all of you know what happens!!!!
Most folks seem to have no problem doing this
