To avoid the hassle factor and time consuming stuff I am thinking about letting a broker do all the work. I am talking to David's Disney Vacation Club Point Rentals. ******************** Anybody have any information about this?
Thank
You

To most who post here, the word "sell" in your title means you are interested in selling your contract. From the body of the post, it appears you are really interesting in renting the points (selling reservations on a one time basis). If so, consider changing the title - you'll probably get more responses if you do.

I have heard nothing bad about the individual you mention. Recommend you contact some of the references he provides for more info.

I haven't heard of any problems. I have heard, though, that you make him an associate on your DVC account. I don't know if that is true or not, as I never had any reason to investigate. If it is true, it is not something I would personally be comfortable doing.

An associate can make reservations, cancel reservations, bank and borrow points.

I would think that this type of business is against Disney's policies. Talk about commercial renting. Seems like a big red flag to me.

Cindy, Mrs. Kravitz, and countless others with too much time on their hands have all repeatedly notified Disney about this illegal commercial enterprise but for some reason DVC hasn't done anything about it.

[from advice from another member I have changed the title]

First off renting points is not that much of a hassle. It can take some time but most transactions are painless. Now if there is a David's DVC rental, this would be considered, correct me if I'm wrong, a commercial renter. Therefore this would be frowned upon by DVC. I would suggest try renting yourself and save whatever commission you may have to pay this person........

NOTE: The OP had two threads about the same thing, with different titles. I have merged them.

Yes, but if he is making only 1 or 2 reservations on each of 20 different accounts, it may not be flagged as commercial renting, which from what I understand would be flagged when 20 rentals occur on a single account.

That being said I did use his service once, and yes, you do need to add him as an associate, I was very pleased, and everything went very smoothly.

I'll have to admit, my first reaction on reading this was, "Why on earth would anyone let a perfect stranger be listed as even an associate owner on a legal contract?" That just doesn't make sense to me. Did you know this person at all? Was it just a temporary associate membership, and did you delete him after your transaction, or will he be listed as an associate permanently????

I'm just curious about this - it's so far out of my comfort range!!!

He was temporarily added as an associate until the reservations he created were past. I did this through the members website. I have rented points myself and though him, and I must say, I was more comfortable with him than renting directly.

So you could add him, have him make the reservation, and then delete his associate membership after the reservation?

Does Member Services care or even notice if associates are added and dropped in that short a time frame? Just curious - it's still something I would never do, but then again I'm thinking in terms of a "perfect stranger" and you obviously had some trust in him - and probably references as well.

Wonder if it's because he lives and operates out of Canada if that has anything to do with it.

Can an associate owner cause that much harm? I don't think they can really rip you off. If the guy got really mean, I think he could put you in a bad place by banking or borrowing points. But there's no reason for him to do that, unless he just goes crazy.

Potentially, yes, the harm could be great. I'm not commenting on this particular person, but associates in general.

Associates could cancel any reservations that you may have for yourself, even putting them into holding point status if canceled too close to travel time. Associates could make reservations outside of DVC, putting your points into reservation status if you cancel. Associates have the potential to really mess things up. Though I see no reason why this particular person would do so.

Because cease-and-desist letters can't penetrate the 49th parallel? ;)

Sure they can, but enforcing them may be another matter entirely. I don't know anything about Canada's legal system, but ours is nothing to brag about; delays, overextended courts, etc. In any countries legal system it could take ages for something like this to come to trial, and then there may be nothing accomplished.

Yes, we have all heard about this "service", and I too find it FAR outside my comfort zone. First of all...OF COURSE IT'S A COMMERCIAL VENTURE!!! Why else would someone do this? He's charging for the service, and making money off of renting DVC points for others, so it IS a commercial venture. Now why DVC doesn't consider it worth dealing with, I don't know. Perhaps it's the location as Chuck said. I just can not imagine why I would ever put someone I didn't know on my contract as an associate, no matter how little time he would be there. This whole idea sends all sorts of red flags for me. He is...outside the US, brokering, has access to other's points....Nope, I just don't think I could do it. If I HAD to rent out points (something I have never had to do in 11+ years of membership), I'd take the few minutes time and do it myself for security sake. It's hard enough for me to worry about a renter ripping me off by not paying their bills while they are on the trip etc, and leaving me with an account to settle. No way I could worry about my points being taken or canceled or booked for others on top of that. I figure I'd rather have the extra couple bucks a point for myself and not have the agrivation of the worry.

For the person looking to rent points, he offers a service that theoretically is skilled in renting and aware of the pitfalls. People renting from him are less likely to have problems than dealing with a newbie DVC member who is not skilled in all the DVC rules and potential pitfalls. Of course, the renter will pay more by renting through a third party instead of direct from a DVC member. Is the extra cash worth it to the renter? It's their call.

For the DVC member who doesn’t like the hassle of having to rent out their own points, they can use this service to have someone handle it for them. Of course, the DVC member will make less by utilizing this service, as it is a business that takes its cut of the fee the renter is paying.

I myself have never utilized Daddio’s service; however, I've yet to hear one single complaint from either a renter or an owner, so his customers are apparently satisfied. :confused3
