renting from time share owner

Hi,

I am looking into renting points from a DVC member and I wanted to find out when the reservation is typically put into the renters name? Is it after I pay in full? I know this is all about trust but it is a little nerve racking. For you DVC owners that rent out your points, what is your preferred way?

The DVC owner will probably make the reservation in your name when they make it. That way they don't need to call a second time to do that. If you do not pay when you are supposed to they can always cancel the reservation even if it is under your name.

Even when the reservation is under your name the DVC owner still has complete control of the reservation. Only the owner can call up Member Services to make any changes to the reservation (add dining plan, change names on the reservation) because that is part of the legal agreement between the member and DVC.

Once you check in you gain some control, in that you can interact with the front desk (adding a charge card, adding tickets to your key, correcting the names of your guests/children, etc.). You will not gain control to modify check-in, check out dates or upgrading your unit.

It completely depends on who you are renting points from. Every member has their own policy for payment. When I rent my points I put the reservation in the guests name when I call DVC the first time. That way I don't have to call to check availability...then contact the renter...then call DVC again. I get all of the renters info and make the reservations when I call the first time. Once I make the reservation I accept paypal for payment in full. We used to have to wait for confirmations in the mail and I would scan them and email them to the renter. Now DVC confirmations are emailed to us and that's great! I get a copy of the reservation to the renter the same day! Years ago I rented points and the member just wanted a small deposit and the balance months later. I am the complete opposite. I want payment in full because I usually rents extra points for spending money for whatever trip I'm about to take. Take a look at the rent/trade board and look at the listings. If you see a member that seems like they can help you...PM them and get started! Good Luck!!
