Has anyone rented a car from them at Orlando? Am I reading it right..they put a hold on your credit card for the estimated total of the rental PLUS an additional hold of 15% or $250 whichever is greater. So it's like a double hold on your credit card? That comes out to a good deal of change to have a hold on. Do all car rental companies do that?

The only car rental company that doesn't put a 'hold' on your credit card as far as I know is Alamo. They just put a hold for the total amount of your car rental.
Enterprise puts a $300 hold on your cc.A huge chunk of change...
I don't think it's necessary for them to put any amount over and above the rental charge. They have your cc number so if there's a problem they can charge it.

That's exactly what they're doing. The "hold" on your credit guarantees them you'll have enough credit on your card to charge you if there is a problem. Having your credit card number won't do them any good if you max it out before a customer returns a car late, damaged or with an empty fuel tank.

I could understand the hold for the amount of the rental but not the additonal $250.00. On credit cards if the purchase doesn't come thru within 3 or 4 days on your card the hold comes off so I don't know how they manage to hold monies for 2 weeks.

I don't understand the concern about a hold on the credit card. Is there some negative consequence about this that I'm not aware of? Is it only a problem if it puts you close to your credit limit? That's all I can think of...

It IS a concern when you have to rent 2 cars which will total $700 for the time we are there, plus tacking another $500 on as a hold.

OK, it's a concern for you, but why? I'm not being sarcastic or anything here, but I honestly wouldn't be concerned about the hold. All I can think of is it not being good if it puts you at your credit limit and then you can't charge for other things you need. Is this it? :)

I am surfing the net trying to find the lowest possible rate for a minivan for 2 weeks in Nov. I am using the coupon codes from mousesavers, and I have made multiple reservations without giving any cc info. Hope that helps.

I believe the concern is the hold that is put on the credit card when the car is picked up - not when the reservation is made. But I still don't understand the concern. :goodvibes

I don't have a problem with it either, but not everyone has extra room on their credit card. When I was in college and had a card with a low limit, it would have worried me, as it ate up what cushion I had for emergencies.

Gotcha! College & credit limit concerns were a long time ago - I forget! :goodvibes
