Renting from service as opposed to private for a hard to get reservation?

I've rented from both a service as well as from private individuals, as well as having rented when I was an owner a while ago. Give that I'll be wanting to get a very hard to get reservation at the 11 month opening window, do ppl have opinions on whether going through a service or a private person you've vetted has a better chance? I prefer private ppl (I understand the risks), but I'll do what I need to do. Curious about opinions. (I hope this was the right forum for this)

I think that you'll have a better chance with a private owner. There's no advantage to an owner who is using a broker to try for a hard to get reservation....they won't be walking a reservation or trying to piece it together.

I think private owner may give you a better chance because you’ll know what they will be willing to do to help you get it.

AHHH. Never thought about walking a reservation to get the dates you want. I never did it when I was an owner, but reservations weren't nearly as hard to get back then.

Thanks you guys. The only time I used a service, I was disappointed in them not saying they would put any requests on the reservation. I know you can, but they didn't want to, eventually relenting when I pushed. Direct with owners makes me feel better as long as I can check references and see their track records.

That is SO awesome! Someone on this board I contacted about their points prior to this post has already offered to walk them. See? This is what draws us all to Disney, it's the kind of ppl that love Disney and the cast members. We love the joy and happiness we get at WDW and DL. We've never vacationed at a non-Disney property since 1994. Just can't bring ourselves to go anywhere else. Our oldest will be almost 22 at the time of our next visit and he LOVES going. I'd say they've not suffered too much from being forced on Disney vacations and not stuck in a tent w/ bear and mosquitoes like I was as a kid.
