We are interested in renting. Does anyone know what the average amount of wait time it takes to do the matchup of points if they cannot find it when you initially make your request? We have never rented before. Thanks

You should call David's and ask them, they're extremely helpful and really friendly and can probably explain the entire procedure to you and it won't cost you anything to ask.

By the way, welcome to the Dis. :welcome:

I had the same question as I put in a request last night and I'm also wondering when I'll hear back if my selection was available. Here's what is says on dvcrequest.com/rental_process.htm:

"We can usually secure reservations within 24 hours (weekends and holidays excluded)."

I'm hoping this is true since I'm not very patient! :goodvibes

I filled out the online form and paid the deposit last night around 11pm and I got an email this morning at 8:30am with my options. After a couple of emails back and forth, since my first choice wasn't available, I'm now waiting for them to reply back once they procure the points to cover my reservation. So far, so good!

I gave David's 200+ points to rent yesterday morning, by yesterday afternoon they got back to my with 3 requests (all of which I accepted), I booked all 3 online and the deposit was in my Paypal account this morning.

Tough to beat that service!

We wanted VGC points to use the 11 month advantage. Less than 24 hours later they notified us they did not have the VGC points available and gave us the option of going on a waitlist, which did do. Twelve days after we made the initial deposit with David's Rentals we received notice that they could make our VGC reservation. And that included the December holidays in that time period.

I was pretty impressed.

But only 50 percent of your money was there,, that's the only issue I have with David's , I understand why they do that but that's also the reason I cannot go through them, but overall have heard great things about David's

When is the remainder paid? What are the normal terms that DVC owners have (do they require payment in full upon reservation)?

Sorry I left that part out, in the link, depending on how many reservations you will get the other 50 upon guest check in per reservation

You get the 50% at reservation time as a deposit. The remaining 50% is held by David's until the guest arrives at the resort and checks in. It protects the guest from the owner cancelling the reservation after receiving the money. I have rented out my points via David's several times and am very happy with the process. The remaining rental money is immediately deposited into my Paypal account the date the guest arrives and last year that included Christmas Day!

I don't mind him holding the 50% either it makes sense to me why they do that. I put points up to rent last August and within a day had made a reservation for someone. And I'll get the rest of the money in March which will then make it so I can have money for my plane tickets for my December trip this year. If I got all the money in August it would have been gone by now.

My typical terms when renting points myself were 50% down and the balance 60 days prior to checkin (unless banking was a problem for me at that point), so David's terms didn't bother me at all.

This doesn't bother me at all. If I'm renting directly from a member, I will NEVER give them 100% of my money upfront. What if they cancel my reservation and goes away and hide forever? What if they are delinquent and not pay their MFs which will mean I can't check in?

Since David's is a broker, this policy protects the owner because full payment is taken from the renter and at the same time protects the renter because the owner will never get half of their money until it's guaranteed that they were able to check in.

I've rented my points thru David's twice and will do so again. I get enough $ to cover my MF as down payment, and then I get surprise $ in my paypal account later. Truthfully, I've even forgotten I have some receivables until I see the $ and got the email. Lots of things happen in 11 months so the $ is a welcome surprise :)

Could I get higher cost if I were to do it direct myself? Sure. But it also means I have to do more work.

When do you pay the rest? The owner can cancel your reservation right up until check-in. I doubt any owner would let you wait until then to pay the rest.

I guess that means I won't ever rent directly from an owner. Good thing I own! :)

I rented from David's twice in 2012 and the whole process is seamless. Great staff, never an issue. I currently have a request in for 185 points at the Boardwalk in December 2013. They are waiting for an owner with enough points to process the reservation. If there is anyone out there looking to rent their Boardwalk points please consider David's. I may pay a little more per point, but the piece of mind that my room will be there upon arrival is worth it!

We secured our Dec reservation through David's yesterday. So far, it's gone smoothly. Can't wait to stay at the Villas at AK
