I have heard that you can rent a full crib from babies best friend. Has anyone done this and is it much better than the crib that you get from the resort? We will be at the poly next sept. Any photos of resort cribs? Thanks for the info!

We rent from A Baby's Best Friend (www.abbf.com) A LOT! And I can't say enough good about them. They have saved many a vacation with the full size cribs they offer for rent. Comes with a real mattress and clean fresh bedding (Disney-themed of course!)

The resorts have the pack-n-play/playpen, which is fine if your child sleeps through the night in one. Our dgs and dgd never did, and it was well worth the $$ for a real crib from ABBF.

If you need a picture of the typical resort 'crib', just go to ABBF's website and right under their full size crib is the pack-n-play. THat's what the resorts have. . . just different colors.

:thumbsup2

I have just reserved a Toddler bed from www.abbf.com for my 19 month old, who refuses to sleep through the night in a crib now. Easy and strainght-forward rental form and they drop it off in the luggage hold of your resort.

deluxe resorts do have full size cribs, but they're limited and you can't reserve them. you would need to call down to housekeeping for one when you get there. i've gotten them at BWV and VWL.

If you mean the folding-metal-infirmary-style-thin-mattress-1/2 size-stored-in-the-janitor-closet-and-never-cleaned crib that a couple of the resorts offer, we passed on it and called ABBF.

The resort housekeeping arrived with their folded metal one, no sheets and a thin pack-n-play type pad for a mattress, and dusty. I said thanks, no thanks and called ABBF. Really nice, clean, full size, with all the correct bedding and very very clean. We have used them since and I highly recommend them as well. :cheer2:

Sound like Abbf is the way to go. I don't want to get there and then have to scramble, does a full crib fit ok at the poly?

Guess it just depends. We opted for the resort crib. BCV Housekeeping brought it right up and it was fine. He wheeled it right in our villa (it wasn't folded, already set up) and we put it wherever we wanted during the week. It wasn't dusty at all. It was clean, looked pretty new actually. The mattress was extremely thick but it was fine. The sheet was okay but there wasn't a blanket. You'd have to get one. Our DS slept in it just fine.

I didn't see the need to rent a crib. Why spend more money on an already expensive trip? That's just me though. :)

I haven't used a resort crib, beyond the pack n' play, but I can highly recommend ABBF. The crib was great, good service, very clean. It was so nice having a full size crib. Made all the difference and well worth the cost.

Another happy happy happy ABBF customer! They have soooooo much stuff, and the crib is the icing on the cake. Really does make all the difference for a GREAT nights' sleep for EVERYONE.

Dependable, clean, and quality items make it well worth the few $$ in the entire trip.

I wouldn't do it.

Simply because it's recommended that babies under 12 months have a NEW mattress of their own to sleep on. Apparently it reduces the risk of SIDS. So for us, I'd rather take my own than rent from there or the hotel, just for peace of mind!!

Can you advise a link to support the info ref: SIDS and a new mattress? It would be helpful, as I have never heard that one.

Sounds like a scare tactic from the mattress manufacturers. A link with data would be great. Otherwise it's just a rumor. . .

Ick...we, too, had one of the metal things delivered to our room once (at BWV) That thing gave us the willies...it was just so infirnmary-ish and I was not about to let my infant DS sleep on something that thin and soft (it was not a firm mattress in the least)

We since have rented from Children's Furniture Rental and were quite pleased. They did the set-up and take-down, too. They don't have a web site (or didn't when we used them) but can be reached at 407-522-0233. I got their info from a post here on the DIS recommending them and they had been given the info from the bell desk at the GF.

As far as SIDS risks - I don't know that I've read anything specifically on *new* mattresses, but it is recommended that babies are put to bed on their backs on a firm, snug-fitting mattress. Here's a web site with tips: SIDS Prevention Tips

Are the resort "cribs" really Graco Pack-N-Plays? We have a "pack-n-play tent" that we want (*need* ;) ) to use & it's made to fit a standard Graco Pack-N-Play, so I want to be sure that's what the resorts provide. :) We are driving down, so we *could* bring our own PNP... but we'd rather not!

Thanks!

Sure, here it is!

It might not be advice given in the USA, but it is here in the UK. In case you don't want to follow the link, it shows that 74% of SIDS cases in babies under 1 happened when the children were on an old or reused mattress. I think that's pretty significant data - well, significant enough for me to know to buy a new mattress anyway!!

Another one here

Having said that - I would imagine the same risk applies to a child using a parent's mattress when co-sleeping, but we still did that, and do now from time to time.

Edited to add another link!!

All the DVC resorts have a PNP (ours was Graco) in the villa. But you can request a "regular" crib. Its a metal crib on wheels. Its not as big as a regular crib but it is bigger than the PNP. It also sits higher than the PNP and it has a small mattress whereas the PNP only have the thin pad. I believe this is the crib that you would get at the deluxe resorts. I'm not sure if the deluxes have PNPs or not. We've only stayed in the DVC resorts.

My dd's always slept fine in a PnP so it wasn't an issue for us. They slept in one at my moms and when we camped so they were used to it. I did always bring my own PnP sheets so it would feel familiar.

The PnP's were always Graco so the tent will most likely fit!

My sil rented from ABBF and was very happy with the service. She also brought her own crib sheets.

I think you can rent or use a resort crib and still be sure the mattress is firm and fits properly.

Besides how do you travel with a crib mattress?

Also - after reading your links they all say there is no conclusive evidence but that older mattresses "may have a role"

Here is a quote from your second link:
"The study in no way implies that previously used mattresses cause infant deaths. The study also suggests that mattresses with PVC coatings are associated with a lower risk of SIDS compared with other mattress types, disproving an earlier British television claim. There was not enough data available to explore an interaction between old mattresses and routine bedsharing."

I don't think the moms who intend to use a resort crib or rent one need to be unnecessarily alarmed by that type of scare tactic.

ABBF??? Are you kidding??? I love you guys, I really do! I figured I had everything  sorta  covered for our trip, but I was dreading trying to get my 2 year old to fall asleep in a PNP. Never heard of ABBF til now. I learn more helpful tips every day!!! Heading to their site now...THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

I'm another one who had a great experience with cribs from abbf on our last two trips. When DD was 7 months old, we rented a crib, a swing, an exersaucer, and a baby monitor. Everything was like brand new -very clean and all the latest models of everything. On our last trip when she was 18 months, we rented a crib again and a selection of toys for her. We were very pleased both times.

I would like to rent from here too! Was the crib hard to put together or did the company do it for you?
