When renting from a DVC owner is the reservation made in their name (the owner) or in the renters name?

It will be in the renter's name. But the owner you're renting from will retain control of the reservation until you check in. So you will have to rely on the owner to make room requests, DME reservations, etc.

Is it ok if the reservation is made in their name and we are listed as guests?

It wouldn't be OK with me. I wouldn't want someone who wasn't in my traveling party listed on the reservation. What reason are you being given for the owner doing that? It's unnecessary.

FWIW, having "extra" people listed impacts would impact use of the Dining Plan and could also limit the number of people you could have in the room. Might also complicate signing up for Magical Express.

i wonder if it's not a DVC owner at all. could be an RCI exchanger trying to avoid paying for a guest certificate.

if it is, be aware that renting an RCI exchange violates RCI rules, so you'd be at risk of having the reservation canceled out from under you by RCI...

What is RCI? And can anyone share what the confirmation letter should look like? The confirmation that was forwarded to me was a Disney electronic communication
Dear so and so,

Did the person you rented from say anything about a $95 fee due at check-in? If so, then it is an RCI exchange reservation, and they are not reserving as a DVC Owner.

That said, I looked at my last reservation email confirmation. Here are my thoughts.

The email letter will say Dear So & SO (the DVC Member)

It will give the reservation number and a link to View the Details. When you click on that link, you'll be taken to the reservation confirmation webpage.

Your party should be listed as the guests there, the owner should not be listed as a guest. If the owner is listed on the actual confirmation detail as a guest, then you should contact the owner and have him removed.

Thank you. They are not listed as a guest, we are, and the letter is addressed to the DVC owner. This is just the first time we are using a Disboards DVC member, instead of Daves and after reading all the "before you rent" threads I am feeling the need for extra reassurance. Everything seems on the up and up, and the person helping us has been so wonderful. Thank you to all that posted. You have been helpful. Thanks Chuck, for going the extra mile!

Yes, I can confirm the confirmation letter is addressed to the owner, not the guests on the reservation. You should be able to look up the reservation online in Disney's system as you would a hotel reservation.
