Hi everyone, please excuse my ignorance, but I know nothing about renting DVC points, but I am very interested in learning. I know there are probably tons of posts like this on here, but I can't find anything that is just completely basic & straight forward description of what exactly goes on. Can anyone help me or point me in the direction of something like "Renting DVC Points For Dummies?" lol ;)

I have no idea how the process works really, and I don't have any close friends who are in DVC. Please help. :wizard:

Hi there! There are some sticky posts on the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board so I would recommend visiting there to read those over. I am sure some other folks will give you some advice here, too! :)

Thank you both very much! This helped a lot, it is so greatly appreciated! :)

Just an FYI, if you find an owner to rent from, renting can be a WONDERFUL experience! The next thing you know you'll be buying some DVC points of your own. :lmao: Have fun, you'll enjoy yourself.

Oh and by the way, if you have questions after reading the above threads, just ask and we'll provide the answers.

Hi Lia,
I'm new to this too but read the links others sent and some other advice from various sites.
I rented in Feb. for our April vacation.
I picked someone from the rental board who had been a member here for a while, someone who had many posts on the site, a longtime owner....
This person really went out to get the reservation for me.. had I been in his shoes I don't know if I would have spent as much time on the phone with DVC as he did!!!!
Once the confirmation came through on his end he sent me a copy and I sent him the balance of the purchase price. For less than a room only discount rate we are getting to stay at a beautiful resort....
I will say though that the only down side is that I had surgery several weeks ago and am not progressing as we had hoped..
if I am not in shape for the trip I'm pretty sure that we lose out on the reservation... so be sure that you know when and where you want to go.
Good luck renting, hope this helped!

thanks for putting that I am interested also but was afraid to ask, lol

Sure!
I found a lot of help here.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you cannot get any information from DVC... not to confirm your reservation or anything, even if you have a confirmation number. You really need to do your research and find someone you are comfortable dealing with, don't be afraid to ask for a contract or references.

I completely agree with this statement. This is why I say find someone with a lot of posts. I realize that the number of posts doesn't necessary say how honest they are, but it does say they have experience and knowledge on the dis. I am seeing a ton of Low posts rentals right now. It's amazing to me. I remember when I started renting, I made sure that I had a decent post count. I didn't think anyone would even believe me with a post count under 500. Now, they are posting under 20. I rented before I bought, The post count from the owner I rented from was in the 800's at the time. Under 100, not me! I would be afraid they wouldn't even know that they were the one's that had to book Magical Express or the Dining Plan, if I wanted to purchase it. But this is my Opinion. We each have one. ;)

Thanks for the help and advice everyone! I agree that a contract is necessary. I would never rent without a contract and someone who is willing to give references. There is a lot of trust involved, but overall i've heard it can be a really great experience and a huge savings!
