I'm considering renting DVC points for a future trip. Lots of questions (if there's somewhere these are answered please send link!)
1- I know I can add the dining plan to my reservation. What's the time frame for making dining reservations? If you book direct through WDW You get a lot of time to book your dining. Is the time shortened?
2- Same question with FP is the time frame different?
3- I assume magical express is available

thanks

Dining reservations, DME, and FP (or Park Reservations) are the same for DVC reservations as they are for guests staying on the hotel side.

1 - Currently, ADRs can be made up to 60 days in advance. This used to be 180 days, but was shorten due to COVID-19.
2 - Currently, FP+ is not available. When it was available, the booking window opened at 60 days from check-in.
3 - Yes, DME is available. The owner you rent from must set it up.

Also, Dining Plans are not currently available. There is no indication from Disney when Dining Plans or FP+ will be available again.

Yes. I'm really looking into the far future, hopefully once all the Covid is done/gone!

Last I heard, the dining plan is gone (for reguar rooms and DVC rooms).

As PP said, Fastpass also is gone. It may be different when it comes back.

Edit: sorry, my phone rang while I was in the middle of posting; others have already said that.

The owner has to book the dining plan if it comes back. Be sure you are comfortable with needing to give your CC info to them or whatever other means they want.

Just be sure you understand all terms and what non refundable or not changeable really means.

There are renters out there right now who do t want to go and are stuck with losing it all.

Thanks for those helpful tidbits. I'm just starting to investigate this and gathering all the info I can before I make any type of decision. Sometimes it seems going the all-in with WDW might be easier.

Disney now has DME online registration that either owner or renter can fill out. Here's the link:

https://secure.reservations.disney.go.com/ibcwdw/en_US/dme/dmeform
I filled one out for one of my renters since they already had the flight info. when they first rented my points. For another renter, I just sent her the link since she had not booked her flights yet. This way, she can complete whenever she has her flight information plus there is less chance for error when she transmits info. to me and I transmit info. to Member Services.

Technically, that link is not supposed to be used for DVC Reservations. Yes it works, but DVC prefers that the member call MS or use the form that's on the member website.

I am just reading along on this thread, but I was curious do you know why? (It looks like they list the DVC properties on the form.)

(edited to add: it looks like this form is easier to use than the form that I have used in the past from the DVC web page.)

Because our dues partially pay for MDE. When the reservation goes thru the DVC website or MS, it gets billed to DVC. When you book using that link, there’s no way for MDE to tell whether your stay is using points or if it’s a cash reservation. DVC properties are listed on the form because, believe it or not, some people actually pay cash directly to Disney to stay in a DVC villa.

I see--so an accounting issue. But, the guest will still get picked up at the Orlando airport?

What they said

Although if it comes back then you can add it. I think they will just have it removed until 2021.

Basically there is no difference in "benefits" between DVC and Cash for you. Now with the financial side you are going to pay less for a rental but you also lose the flexibility of payment terms, cancellation, and date changes.

If you think you need to do either of those three things rental might not be for you. Now payment terms might be okay though depending on who you rent through. Person I rented from the last time before I purchased had me pay in full 60 days prior and had me give a 15% I think it was down payment at time of booking (was 4 months out).

If you are renting points get trip insurance in case something happens as all brokers have a no refund policy. Some will offer trip insurance but if they don't get it somewhere else. You can also rent from owners here. They may be able to change your reservation if your plans change but I would still get trip insurance. Also buy discounted Disney Gift Cards for anything the owner has to book (like the dining plan) that way you aren't giving them your credit card.

If you are getting trip insurance get one that is for any reason.

Anything less than that at this point is likely to be worthless. Most don't cover preexisting and since COVID19 is already around likely would be excluded even if pandemics are not excluded to start with.
