I felt terrible writing the word "done" lol My children are encouraged not to at school, as well as the word "got". :lmao:
Anyway................With the money we would spend on 2 rooms at the Grand for a 5 night stay, we could get a 2 bedroom villa at the Grand for less with dvc points. I don't even know if it's possible and honestly, it scares me a little.

Does anyone have any experience? I know a couple of lucky Aussies on this board have their oww. Any help would be nice. I'm thinking I might be a bit late with only 3 months and 1 week to go.

Yes - am on my phone so will reply more fully later but we are staying at the Grand (Californian) this December 22 - 27 on points rented through Davids. So far it's been a brilliant experience. Our booking shows up on My Disney Experience in our names just like our WDW bookings too. So pleased we gave it a go!

I would add - we booked quite some time ago and we left our name (and booking deposit) in the hat after they originally said they did not have enough points yet to see what would come of it. Three months out could definitely be tricky - I don't know if it really might be too late - but if you have a back up accommodation (that you can cancel) organised, who knows what could come of it.

I think your to late but if you tell me your dates I can check if anything is available for you and then you would need to find someone to rent from the GCV are usually booked up the day they become available.

I've rented from a lovely friend I met here on DIS for two nights in a studio at the Grand Cali next month. The GCV only have a very small number of villas so you really need to book 11 or at least 7 months out or get very, very lucky. I think it's wonderful if you can pull it off. I've stayed at OKW and WL in DVC villas and LOVE them.

I agree with others - I think you may have left it too late.

However, if you can find availability, it's definitely something that is worth investigating further. I have rented DVC points for my upcoming split stay (BWV and AKV) and have been nothing but happy with the process so far. I went through Davids and another broker that can't be mentioned on this site. PM me if you need anymore info.

I've done it several times but not through David's - through another broker called DVC Rental. and there is one I like the look of called DVC Rental Store.
anyway - yes it all worked for me very smoothly.
Although this time around I am stuck in the waiting list with 2 brokers and neither can come up Boardwalk Inn owners. (a 3rd confessed up front he didn't have an owner) Fortunately, I have only just crossed the 11 month mark so one of them may still come good. So it can depend on where and and when you want to stay. What struck me was both brokers said to me "yes we'll get it for you", when really they were crossing their fingers hoping to find owners. Otherwise I am waiting until the 7mth mark and hoping that the rooms i want are still available. So it is still a gamble - not a guaranteed thing.
Last year, I wanted the first week of December (the most popular DVC time) and I was queued up at the 11 month mark and rooms booked out astonishingly quickly and I had to do a split stay cause the broker couldn't get enough points and enough continuous available days in 1 location.
I suspect that with 3 months out you could still get SSR - maybe OKW - if that is where you are willing to stay.

I'm renting through a friend.

Like everyone else, if you're going to "get" it, get in early.

What we need to know is your actual arrival and departure dates, can then check availability on DVC points at any resort.

The process is very simple, someone rents you points and you pay them, usually by Paypal! Happy to help.

I might have points at present and would consider it, depends on the renter!

We've done it in the past, and have current Resv for next April, through DVC- David's Vacation Club. We just decided two weeks ago to go to the Food and Wine Festival in October. Nothing was available through David's and Disney only had larger units available at Saratoga Springs for much more money than a resort room. Long story to say: Try David's but its probably too late. Good luck!

We will be arriving on the 16th of November until the 25th of November, so it is a long stay and lots of points. Thank you for your willingness to help ColinA. you are all so helpful. My mum is going with 4 in her room. I'm going with 6. Mummy dear has suggested taking one of my kids so that we'll have 5 each so now we can go with just getting a standard room. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now to make everything perfect I need to get into club 33 lol

The nights of 20, 21 and 22nd are available in a 2 bedroom. There is one night in a 3 bedroom Grand Villa!

For your interest a 2 bedroom Sleeps 9, 1 king-size bed, 2 queen-size beds, 1 queen-size sleeper sofa & 1 pull-down bed, Full kitchen, Washer/dryer, 3 bathrooms, including master with whirlpool tub and takes 507 points.

3 Bedroom Grand Villa Sleeps 12,1 king-size bed, 4 queen-size beds,1 Queen-size sleeper sofa & 1 full-size sleeper sofa, Full kitchen, Washer/dryer, 4 bathrooms, including master with whirlpool tub and takes 1035 points.

My rentals for this year were $11.00 US per point, David is asking $14/point

Grand Californian only has deluxe views unlike some of the WDW DVC rooms which have standard or other view rooms.

Do you have a business or are you an owner that rents? Where can we get more info?

Thanks Colin. Next time we go we will definitely try renting points through you, and we'll get in earlier. What are the chances of renting so many points at once? It seems like people rent off a couple of hundred at a time, not in the thousands.
The suites sound dreamy, especially with a laundry. ahhhhh, just chuck those close in the washer and dryer and walk away, instead of sitting around the public laundry for hours.

I am an owner, normally rent out points in February on the Rent/trade section. I list the left over points after we have made our own booking for Christmas.

Will do other rentals during the year depending on the situation.

Our home resort is the Boardwalk, we can book there 11 months from the check in date. Other DVC resorts we can book 7 months. With renting DVC points for hard to get resorts like Grand Californian you need to try to find an owner that owns there, otherwise it could be limited.

It is easy to check the point amount and availability on the member site, the hard part is getting the renter to decide.

Any luck with getting your other bookings through the broker.

DH, DD & I usually stay at the Poly when we go to WDW but we are considering bringing one of DD's friends with us next year (October 18-24). While the Poly will sleep 5 we'd like to stay somewhere that provides some privacy so we are looking at renting DVC points. We like the MK area and would love to stay in a 1 BR villa at the GF.

I have been on Davd's website and another DVC rental website and while the cost savings look great the no cancellation policy scares me. Seeing as you have to book so far in advance and anything can happen there's alot of money to be lost. And not having control of the reservation bothers me.

Am I being too paranoid? Is renting really worth it? Help! :flower3:
