Renting dvc, paying for parking?

We arrived yesterday and are renting dvc points. We have family joining us and when they arrived the check in people looked up our reservation and told them they had to either pay for self park for $25 or valet for $33. They choose to valet since it wasn't much more.

I was under the assumption we didn't need to pay for parking. 1. Because we booked before they started charging and two because we were staying on dvc points .

The wording says Vacation Club members do not pay for parking. It doesn’t say that guest staying at DVC get free parking.

I actually had an email from guest services about this issue the other day - they told me to make sure I told the front desk that we had booked BEFORE the rates were introduced and we wouldn't be charged for parking.

I’m not sure about the DVC part, but I know if you booked before this went into effect you don’t have to pay. There’s not much you can do about the one night valeted, but definitely go to the front desk and tell them they are uncorrect and have your family self park for free the rest of the trip

Get ahold of a manager. You should not be charged for parking for either vehicle. The DVC owner pays annual maintenance fees on those points which include maintenance of the parking lot. Thus, they cannot charge you that fee if you are staying on points.

This is typical Disney constantly changing policies and not dispersing clear information.

I believe you're entitled to 2 vehicles per unit although I haven't reviewed the condo info lately.

Thanks everyone. We talked to the front desk and they removed all charges. They said not only were we grandfathered in but staying with dvc points (rented or owner) does not pay parking. I'm glad we talked about it though and they didn't just pay it. It was odd because they looked up our reservation prior to letting them park.

Were your family members also on the reservation? That might have been the misunderstanding. When you said they were "joining you", did that mean staying on the reservation and were on the reservation or just meeting you there?

Yes they were on the reservation, they just arrived a few hours after us and aren't up to date on all the recent changes. Someone took their reservation number to confirm and then they were told they needed to pay parking. They decided to valet since it wasn't much more than the standard parking.

It all worked out and was fine, but at the time of my posting I was questioning my knowledge of the new parking rules. I knew we didn't have to pay this trip since we were grandfathered in, but o wasn't sure about renting points in the future. And I was surprised that after someone looking at their reservation that they were told they needed to pay parking .

Whether they were day guests meeting you or staying overnight, they shouldn't have been charged. If Disney is going to implement this parking fee, the least they could do is properly train their employees and have some consistency.

Good to know since we rented points as well in Sept, our family is staying at AOA but I booked them Before the change went into effect Ill have to remember to tell my son to insist on it..
