renting cars

I rented a compact for vacation this summer which gave an example of a ford Focus. The funny thing is one car rental place shows 4 people and 3 bags while another shows 5 people and 2 bags. For those who have a Ford Focus, how many people can fit comfortably and how much luggage? I want to be sure this car will be OK and not have to go up a size.

Hello Winter!

For ANYONE renting a car the suggestions for what you can cram into them are all subjective. It depends on how big everything is. How big are the people and how big are the pieces of luggage? I freely admit I've never rented a Focus before but I'm trying to attack it logically.

*** No insult intended towards anyone ... I'm just trying to make a point! ***

Obviously, you will be able to fit a few more people in the car if you just came from an anorexia clinic than from the biggest loser reject pool.

Seriously though, I would say 4 normal sized adults would be comfortable in the car ... since you would only have your luggage in the car coming from and going to the airport that would be the only time where things may get a little tight due to everyone's personal items cluttering up the place.

As far as luggage ... I'd say 3 or 4 pieces of medium sized luggage ... beyond that it may sort of overflow into the body of the car.

BTW, I'm not sure which rental company you've chosen but usually finding a coupon or code for a free car class upgrade is easy to find.

I drive a Focus hatchback, but there's no way I'd put 5 people in it unless 3 of them were SMALL children. If the front passengers have long legs the front seats will be almost to the back seat. The hatch seems pretty roomy, but I've never stuffed luggage in there either. I have a long commute to work, so it's perfect for me, but not for a family.
