Hello! I am a newbie. We are planning our first family trip to WDW and Universal in November. We plan on surprising our boys :)

We plan on staying on site at Disney and then going to Universal for the reminder of our vacarion and staying on site at Universal, too. I understand we will have to arrange for transportation. I am thinking, we check out of our Disney hotel that morning, and would have to wait until 4pm to check in at Universal, so maybe we should rent a car and drive around for a day and do some shopping, touring, etc. My question now would be, do I rent a car at Disney? But will I be able to drop off the car at Universal at the end of the day? If so, where would we drop it off?

If it helps, we plan on staying at AoA at Disney and Cabana Bay at Universal.

Renting a car at Disney and dropping it at Universal depends if the rental car company has offices at both places. I'm not sure who rents car at Disney.

If it's any help we always rent a car for our entire trip to Disney. It allows you to make trips to a grocery store for snacks/drinks. (We always eat breakfast in the room.) Make any unexpected trips as well. IMHO, it's almost always quicker than Disney transportation except possible getting to the Magic Kingdom. We've been multiple times and only have ridden a bus one time.

I've been able to check in much earlier than 4 at US/IoA resorts. As early as 8:30 am! Left my bag with Bell Services, went to the parks, and returned later to get into the room and get settled. No need to drive around, killing time. Do what you need to do, and then get checked in.

This a better idea than mine. Just hire transportation to Universal and skip renting a car. IMHO, there's nothing to see that's better than the various parks in Orlando anyway.

Depending on how many people you have with you, a mears taxi or one day rental with drop off at Universal is the best way to go, I'd check Alamo and National. You know, if you are flying, there's also no free ride to the airport, so you'd rent a car or use a limo service from Cabana Bay.

So jealous, Cabana Bay looks like a great hotel!

Many of us split resorts when vacationing in Orlando, the Motherland (WDW) and the Darkside (Universal). We like to visit both.
