Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has rented an electric breast pump while staying at Disney....I do not want to carry my pump with me (it is expensive and heavy and I am afraid it will be damaged on the plane). I am bringing my hand pump to pump in the parks during the day but at night and in the morning it would be easier to use an electric pump. I heard that some hospitals rent pumps and I would just have to but the extra parts.
Thanks!!

Hi,
This company rents medical eqmt and services WDW guests:
http://www.caremedicalequipment.com/company.htm

The do NOT list breast pumps on their site but maybe if you email or call them they can refer you to a company or hospital that can provide that for you.

I pumped exclusively for ds for several months ... I used a Medela Lactina and then later bought a P.I.S. I remember there was a kit I had to purchase that included the horns and the external pumping piece for the Lactina. If I remember correctly the kit was $40. That is something you should check into because the pump might just be one part of it and you might have to purchase the external parts which are single user only. I hope that makes sense!

If you're flying, you can carry-on your pump and that way at least you won't have to worry as much about it being damaged.

Hth.

I'm not sure but I wanted to ask what hand pump you had. I know some people say their Avent Isis works as well as their electric pumps. A friend even liked hers better than her Medela Pump-in-style. (I think that's the right name). Though I use an Avent Isis, I've never used an electric, so I can't compare them. I would think you would be able to easily use it at night and in the morning.

I agree with the other poster about pump parts. Often you do need to have your own single user parts so I'm not sure how they would rent the whole thing.

Check the local hospitals' birthing centers/maternity wings? :confused3 I rented a Medela pump directly from the lactation center in the hospital where my son was born. I paid I THINK $20 a month and had to buy the single use parts (I can't remember that cost). Maybe a local hospital can rent one to you for the stay. Seems like kind of a pain for you though, since you'd probably have to go there to get it (not to mention an appointment probably). I think I'd either bring your electric as a carry-on, or just use the hand pump. I loved the Isis I had. I never tried to bring an electric on trips...just the Isis.

I pumped on and off for a period of 7 years, everywhere from work to vacation rentals to airports. I think that time of my life is finally over now...can't say I miss it! Not always easy being a mom! :teeth:

EDITED TO ADD: I found this site: http://www.ecobabycare.com/breastpumprental.html

It looks like they'll rent them month to month, and will deliver anywhere (shipped). It would be $100 ($50 for the month's rental, $50 for the non-reusable parts), but it could come directly to your resort, it sounds like. You'd have to pay for a whole month though. I think I'd still just bring the hand pump. Good luck!

I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to give you a :thumbsup2 for pumping :)

I just wanted to add that I flew several times carrying on my pump (Medela PIS) sometimes in a rolling carry on and sometimes as my only carry-on (stuck a magazine in the side pouch and other things that would normally go in my purse in the main compartment).
Also, you've probably thought of this already, but if you want to bring the milk back you need to check it through. This may be my overprotectiveness kicking in, but I'd probably pack duct tape or some sort of seal to put over the bottles so I knew it hadn't been tampered with.

You can try A Baby's Best Friend www.abbf.com. I am not sure if they have them or not, but it seems like I remember talking to them about it the last time I rented a crib and stroller from them. They are great folks, and if they don't rent them they can probably direct you. :thumbsup2

I heard the same about the Isis. A friend of mine claims 10 ounces in 10 minutes. Me? I got 2 ounces in 20 minutes, but I never tried anything else so I could've been a poor pumper. But for as inexpensive as it is, it may be worth the try. You could always ebay it.

If you rent, try to rent the same model you use at home, and bring your own set of sanitary parts (the horns and tubing). The sanitary parts are not rented, they must be purchased for each user, so you should be able to save at least around $30 by bringing your own with you.

Hospital lactation centers in the Orlando area should be able to rent you a pump, but be aware that a lot of pump rentals operate on a monthly basis, so you may be paying a pretty steep price. If you will need to transport the milk home via air, you'll need to check it. Bring along some hard bottles with hard tops (NOT the Avent rubber tops!), and also a supply of paper lunch bags and a cardboard box. Put the milk in the the lunch sacks, mark with your name and room number, and put them in the box without sealing it. Take the whole thing to your hotel kitchen and ask them to store it in their deep-freeze during your stay. They can add the add'l bags daily. Before you leave, take the whole thing to Kinko's and have them box it in an aircraft-approved frozen food shipment box. (Call ahead to make sure they have the right packing materials on hand when you arrive.)

Hi
I know that certain drugstores will rent breast pumps. I did when I was in the hospital for a week when my son was baby. I guess you could find out on the internet which drugstores are near Disney, then call them to see if they rent them. Good luck with the pumping. I used to pump by hand, every night since I had so much milk, and then donated it to a child that could only have breast milk, no food at age 4. Her name was Lacey and I think she lived in Oklahoma. This was about 20 years ago. If anyone knows what happened to her, I'd love to know. Thanks. :goodvibes

Thanks everybody! www.abbf.com is an amazing site! no breast pumps but they rent the Bumbo chair!! My daughter loves that chair and I will get a microwave from them also and maybe a stroller!!
Thanks! I think I am just going to bring my manual pump amd just deal with it.....

I pumped as well...and I bought a whisper wear just for WDW...it is battery opperated and totally handfree, I pumped in line while waiting for rides because it is two seperate units that fit in your bra, it may suit your needs and be a nice option to have as a backup. just google whisper wear.
