A friend of mine was asking me about DVC and I was explaing how point system worked and about borrowing. Then a thought occurred to me about canceling borrowed points. Does anyone know if you can rent out points that you borrowed and are now in your current use year? Can't seem to find out anything in the member book about renting.
Just wondering.
Thanks

Yes you can rent out borrowed points. You just make the reservation and tell them who's name it's in.

You can rent out any points, the same rules apply as using them yourself.

Previous posts are correct, but I would add that you cannot transfer borrowed points to another dvc account/member. We rented to another dvc member last fall and because some of the points were borrowed, we had to make the reservations in our names and there names instead of just transferring points to their account.

You can, but there is one thing to watch out for...

If you borrow points to rent to someone and THEY cancel you cannot put the points back. You have to use them this year. So be very sure you trust that the person you rent to realizes you may be holding the bag if they back out. We had relatives last year that wanted to go to WDW. As a favor we rented them points because it made the trip considerably cheaper. We had to borrow points because they needed a 2 bedroom for their large group for a week. When they changed their mind, I spent considerable time re-planning, rearranging, transferring and last minute renting (at $8/point, mind you) in order not to be a complete loss.

I told DH no more borrowing for other people unless they realize that I will hunt them down and hurt them if they back out.

The original question was based on points already borrowed that as I understood it, the owner couldn't use any more. In that case renting them out is better than having them expire. That is vastly different than borrowing points just to rent.

If you are renting points and allow for cancellations, you should think about putting a provision in your contract that allows for a refund for up to what you can re-rent the points for. The times that I have rented, the renters have never had a problem with this provision. It gives them a chance to cancel but also protects me.
