Anyone with experience renting Aulani points from a rental company like David's? We're planning our honeymoon to Hawaii for 2016, and would like to spend part of it at Aulani. I plan to engage David's prior to the 11 month mark to let them know if our intent, in case there are Aulani home resort points available at the time. My questions:

1. Anyone know the likelihood of Aulani points being available at the 11 month mark for rent? We've never rented so wasn't sure if this was unheard of.

2. What's the likelihood of there being enough points for us (at either the 11 or 7 month mark) to book a full 7 nights at the resort? We'd prefer not to change rooms and would prefer to not stay in a 2BR since it's just the two of us.

Thanks all!

I just rented through David's for our March trip. I only needed to book 2 days, but it is during HI spring break. I was able to get the 2 days I wanted at 6 months. I was considering checking in a day earlier, but that day was not available.
I think you will be okay at 11 months. Your chances are greater if you spring for ocean or pool view. At 11 months though, I think most options will be open.

First of all congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

If you rent points from David's inside the 11 month window you will pay a premium of $16pp for Aulani not $14pp. As for whether he will have the points - that really is a crap shoot. Brokers don't know what resorts they will have at the 11 month mark, because (as you probably know) they don't own the points -- DVC owners come to them and they are just a "middle man". Their main job is to match a DVC owner to a renter. I have often heard that many of the brokers don't have points in the 11 - 7 month window for highly desired resorts. That's why brokers raised their prices, and are paying DVC owners more too for these resorts inside the 11 - 7 month window ($13pp 11-7 vs $11pp inside 7). If all else fails, Google "DVC point brokers" David's does have competition in this market, and there are other point brokers out there that are just as reputable. And many owners prefer to use other brokers due the fact that David's requires owners to take their payment via Paypal.

You didn't mention your dates, but it may not be necessary to rent in the 11 month window. I have often found that if you book your room the day your window opens you can be successful. However, with this being your Honeymoon, I understand your desire to book in the 11 month window, especially when monetarily the difference relatively small.

Your last resort is to search directly for an Aulani owner yourself on the rental board. You may actually have better luck securing what you want in the 11 month window at a lower price.

Good luck with your decision!
