I want to suprise my DSis and her 5 kids (6 by summer, she's due anyday now:) ) on our family trip to WDW. We have gone in previous years but we rented a durango once and we were squished and it was her and I and our combined 8 kids. Two were toddlers and one was an infant and I am strongly disappointed to say that we couldn't put the toddlers in carseats because the 5 big kids wouldn't have fit. We buckled them in on an older childs lap and put the infant in his seat. I do not want to do this but we are now up to 9 kids (and those big kids from before are even bigger, all pre-teens and teenagers) and maybe one fiance' (hers has to work). I wanted to know if anyone ever rented a van from dollar rental or enterprise and about what the cost was. This is my only hold up. She doesn't drive so its all on me. Any help please:confused3

You drove from DE to Orlando with toddlers sitting on other kids laps?????

:offtopic: The OP regretably stated that this did take place she is not asking for judgement she is asking about RENTING a VAN.

Are you worried about the cost or actually driving the van itself. I would continue to check out other rental places and look for some coupons as well if cost is the issue. What type of van are you looking to rent.

No No. We took amtrak down and have a van taxi but I rented a car from Dollar rental and the largest they had was a Durago. I would never drive that far at all, I fall asleep after an hour so I surely wouldn't do that without everyone being secured correctly. I put my DD in her carseat everyday. I also have a MPV but when all the kids are here (my DSis lives in NC), that is even a very tight squeeze. I need a passenger van if I could rent one. We would take amtrak down again.

I was curious to if any company rented a passenger van. and thanks cancer survior 06. I really hated doing that but I didn't have an option once I was there and I am trying not to repeat that again. My nerves were a wreck each and everytime we got in the car.

I hope you do the right thing and have the correct vehicle for your party size. National rents full size vans but the cost is prohibitive. I would suggest if it is possible, that your sister get her license as renting 2 compacts will be cheaper then getting a full size van.

Carl's Vans rents the big vans but it is expensive. A regular minivan really doesn't fit more than 7 (2 in front, 2 in the middle seat and 3 in the rear). If 3 of the kids are really small you may be able to get 8 in the van with putting 3 on the middle seat, but it will be tight.
