Has anybody ever rented a II trade before? Just asking because next year we may not travel and my brother may be interested in a II trade vacation. He's not a big Disney fan but put him on a golf course and he's all set. Any help would be greatly appreciated.........

You can do an exchange to an II resort using your DVC points. Depending on the size of the group travelling, a studio or 1BR might meet your needs. It's best to give MS as much lead time as possible- expecially if your dates and/or resort are not flexible. In addition to the points needed for the exchange there is a $95 exchange fee to make the reservation thru MS.

Enjoy!

Doc, I thought II rules prohibited renting an II trade out.

You can "give" a II exchange to a friend or family member. But it's against II's rules to rent it. I've seen auctions on E-bay shut down when people try to rent II exchanges. I think II monitors E-bay and timeshare rental sites to watch for people trying to rent exchanges.

You are right. Renting an II exchange is not allowed. However, DVC members can make a reservation thru the World Passport collection (using II) and put someone else's name on the reservation just like at a DVC resort.

he doesn't like the golf courses at WDW - how about the ton of them in the surrounding area?

I might try for the Marriott's Grande Ocean in Hilton Head, SC - or hey just put him in DVC at HH, SC. there are a lot of golf courses there.

We have given trades to friends and family members many times. After you secure the II reservation in your name, you may change it to another's name for $40 (last time I looked). Then the confirmation is in their name.

I always charged my relatives the fee! pirate:

One thing that would keep me from giving it to people I didn't know and love would be YOU are responsible if THEY don't pay their incidental bills, or wreck the place.

Having said this, we give our place away a lot (we own a condo that we trade weeks out of like a timeshare) and never once have we had a problem, because they have to leave a credit card with the front desk at the resort.

As noted, this would not be a rental. HH is a good choice because you can schedule directly if available and possibly avoid the weekends. Myrtle Beach might be an even better choice from what I hear. You might be able to get a private exchange as well.
