Renting a Toddler Bed

Hello :sunny:

We are staying at Orange Lake and wondering what to do with dd, who is 2.5 yrs old. She sleeps in a toddler bed at home and I was thinking about renting her one from abbf.com for the week. They are $72.00 to rent! Does this seem high or is it just me? Does anyone know of anywhere else that might rent them? I know I have seen previous posts about a fellow who rented cribs, but doesn't have a website. Does anyone know about this company?
Do you think I could buy a new one for less than that? We bought ours from a really nice garage sale and my mom paid $10 for it! So it was a good deal. I also need to rent bed rails, so should I just suck it up and rent it?

Any info appreciated :)

Thanks
Kerri

Another option might be to get a blow up toddler bed. They have one at Wal-mart for about $35 US that is Cinderella's castle. It comes with one of those foot pump things, has a footboard and a headboard and the sleeping area is the size of a toddler bed. Since it looks like you are cominig from Canada I expect that you could have Wal-mart.com deliver it right to the condo office if you can't pick it up on the way from the airport. My dd2 sleeps on a blow up mattress/sleeping bag at grandma's. she has rolled out once or twice but it is only about 5 inches to the floor and she didn't even wake up. Since it is novel to her bedtime is usually easier than expected to0 ( :rolleyes1 shouldn't say that too loud)

Have a great time!!

I'm sure they consider that a reasonable renting fee- but personally before I spent that much on a rental I'd drive to walmart and BUY a toddler bed for less than that amount! Not sure what you'd do with it afterwards -but even if you didn't keep it, it would probably cost less than that.

The blow-up bed is a good idea... maybe you could even keep it and take it home with you afterwards?

Do those blow up beds fold down really well? I wonder if I could stuff it into a duffel bag to carry home or if I saw one here before I left I could take it? I did look on Walmart.com and Target.com and both had basic toddler beds for about 39.00 if they were the simple Dora beds, etc. I wonder if this is a better option? Maybe someone would want to use it after me?

Hi, we have one of the Disney princess blow up beds. It's just a small air mattress with a sleeping bag covering it. And it has a built in pillow. It works just fine although if your daughter is used to sleeping in a toddler bed she might roll off it but you can put pillows or blankets on the side in case she rolls. I wouldn't waste my $$ on buying or renting a toddler bed. Good luck and have fun!

You could probably through the blow up into a duffel and then mail it home on your last day. When you are thinking about buying the toddler beds don't forget that most of the time they don't come with mattresses.

This is what we use for DS (now 3) when we travel...and for overnights at grandmas.

Very easy to put together and roll up. Comes with its own carry bag. We love it!

I have this...LOVE IT! It doesn't fold up small, though. It is an excellent comfortable travel bed and if you can find a way to take it on the plane it is well worth it.

We are thinking about taking an aeurobed, I'm trying to figure out if we can take it on the airplane. We have DS3 and DS5 that will either be in bed with us and grandma or on a blow up mattress. I thought about doing the rental, but we would need two, and that is too expensive.

I like the look of the Ready Bed ... I wonder if I can find one here at Walmart (I am in Ontario). Sometimes the U.S. carries things that we don't get! I am going to look. It may just be the right option for her ... she still loves Dora too!

Thanks so much for the info ... and to the person who reminded me that a toddler bed does not come with a mattress ... DUH ... why didn't I think of that???? Thanks for reminding me of that minor detail!!

Hi Kerri-
We rented 2 toddler beds in September from ABBF for our 2 and 4 year olds and it was great. It was pricey, but they slept wonderfully and to me, that's worth a boat load of money, especially on vacation!! We tried the Readybed at grandma's and my 4-year old didn't like it. She kept getting up all night. My 2-year old however, slept in it just fine. If your child is pretty good about sleeping anywhere (like my 2-year old), you will probably be fine with one of the inflatable options; however, if she's fussy about where/how she sleeps, I'd rent the bed in a heartbeat. Good luck with your decision.

Just a heads up - I was in Target today and they had the Disney and Care Bears blow up beds for $8.75! They also had children's Aerobeds for $19.98 - originally $90? They weren't too heavy. And remember - if you buy a ticket for the children, they are entitled to the same # of bags (luggage) as any other passenger.

I just sent DH to a bunch of Targets looking for the luggage special that was posted on another board and now I have to send him back looking for the aerobeds! He's going to love this!

I wish we had Target in Canada ... but we don't ... maybe someday we will (one can only hope!). Anyways ... I did pick up one of those Ready Beds (Dora) today at Walmart for 39.95 (Canadian). It seems ok, but I don't know if she will be able to sleep in it. She isn't the best sleeper, so it may be worth the money to rent the toddler bed after all. Not sleeping through the night is worse than spending a bit of money to have some peace!!!

Leslie ... did they set them up for you? I know when I previously rented with them we had to pick up from the main resort building at Orange Lake. I don't know how I'd get the toddler bed in if it is already put together. Or does it come with things to assemble it?

I do plan on renting bed rails from ABBF anyways, so it may be worth it to rent the bed after all and just suck it up ;)

Hi Kerri-
They came totally set up. We were at BCV and called down to Bell Services and the guy brought them both up on luggage cart. We needed to put them in the master bedroom, so we had to pull them through the front door and around a corner to get them into the bedroom. It really wasn't too difficult. They're molded plastic and fairly lightweight They came with a mattress pad, sheets, and comforter.

When it was time to checkout, I pulled them back in to the "foyer" area by the front door by myself without too much trouble and bell services came back to get them and stored them until ABBF came back to pick them up.

Let me know if you have questions or need more info.

Good Luck
Leslie
