Renting A Stroller?

Has anyone rented a stroller from a company other than Disney? If so, which companies would you recommend and why?

Also, I am interested in the double jogging strollers because my children weigh about 45lbs each. Do they fold easily for the buses? Or is it a major pain to use them?
TIA:goodvibes

For our upcoming Sept trip I was looking at renting from Orlando Stroller Rentals but then got nervous with "what if's". What if it was stollen? Would I have to pay the replacement cost of $500! Ouch. What if the kids were too tall and uncomfortable....

I was on the budget board and found a stroller swap with my dates open. So now for $15 dollars (for an entire week) we are renting a double jogging stroller that has a front swivel wheel, wt of up to 100 lbs., folds compact and has great storage.

The swap is the MICKEY EXPRESS and it has the end of Nov. open for rent. It is also based at POP :)

Just a thought

A double jogging stroller probably won't fold up so easily for the busses.

At your kids' ages, you may just want to rent a stroller at the parks. The doubles are nice and big!

Other option: do you have one at home still that you could bring?

I think my sister used "A Baby's Best Friend" company to rent a full size crib for her daughter last year. Maybe they have strollers.

Sometimes the cost to rent them is high - almost worth buying one for a trip or two!

You could also look at consignment shops for a used one to bring.

You can rent a Baby Jogger City Mini from these folks for $85/week:

I'm a huge Baby Jogger fan - all their strollers are so easy to fold (lift the strap and done) and are designed for bigger / taller kids. Double strollers in general are heavy but so what if it takes an extra minute or two to fold it up and lug it onto the bus? Your kids will be comfy all day long and the few times you have to fold it up you'll be surrounded by other parents doing the same thing with their strollers. ;)

The Baby Joggers also have the BEST canopies for sun protection - shaped like a dome so the little ones are out of the sun no matter what time of day. You can see the specs on the City Mini here to see if they're big enough for your kids (scroll all the way down to stroller specs - the ladies that run this site actually measure them as it's the kind of thing most parents need to know):

Also, click on the "view demo" button at this site to see a clip of how to fold the stroller and get a 360 view - the easy fold is what sold me on our Baby Jogger.

Personally, I would find a double stroller a huge pain to fold up...especially at night after the fireworks when the buses are loaded to capacity and you are lucky to get a seat. I would recommend borrowing a stroller from a friend or two if you don't have yours anymore. We bring our Maclaren for Disney. DD is 45 inches about about 46-47 pounds. She fits in it just fine, it reclines, has a basket, AND it folds up like a small umbrella stroller.

I have two great strollers (umbrella-like), but I have 3 kids! My two girls are 46lbs and 49lbs. I feel like they should be able to walk, but with us being there for 8 days, that is a lot of walking!!! I know I will get tired!

What happens if someone takes/steals the rented stroller?? Are they insured?

I am renting a double from Orlando Stroller Rentals for our trip next week. Their double is the easiest folding stroller on the market. It will fold quicker than any single traditional Mac or Peg. Check out the video link on the Baby Jogger website. http://babyjogger.com/cityminimain.htm. It will be a piece of cake to get on a bus.

I have been to Disney many times with our own strollers and I have never had an issue with one being stolen nor have I heard of anyone else's being stolen. I asked this question to OSR and they have a sign on their strollers that identifies their company as well as the customer's family name. This will make them less likely to be stolen or mistaken for in my opinion.

My understanding is that none of the rental companies offer insurance to their customers. Probably because you can just walk off with it then no questions asked.

Not to mention we do not own a stroller any longer because the age of our kids. Trust me they need a stroller for at least some portion of the time until they are age 7 or 8!! The average Disney visitor walks 5 miles per day. The $85 for the week is well worth not have super cranky kids after trekking through the parks all day and night.

our plan was to take 2 singles for our 1 yo and 3 yo. our 7 yo is walking.
i ended up finding a double stroller swap with a maclaren (which folds up WAY better than the double jogging stroller i have at home) on the budget board. so im doing that for $22 for the week.

the weight limit on the stroller that we are renting does hold my 7 yo weight so if he wants to sit when the 3 yo is up walking he can. but i decided i was NOT getting him his own stroller.
we are going next week, it will be hot, we will just have to go slow.

(i see you are going thanksgiving week so it will be majorly crowded. honestly the wait times may be longer than usual so they may get more resting non walking time.)

i really debated getting a stroller for our 7 yo who has adhd and has been known to have major meltdowns at disney. but his last trip at 6 yo he walked a huge portion of the time and didnt do any worse than usual.

The Baby Jogger City Mini is not a jogger and is a stroller made by Baby Jogger the company. Anyhow, you should check out the video on how it folds because nothing compares believe me.

Does anyone have any feedback on stroller swaps? I would be interested on our Feb trip in 2009 but am concerned that the strollers people are swapping are not clean on delivery and what if I am at a different resort then where the stroller is located? I would prefer a City Mini since my kids are close to 50lbs each and the Mini's wheels are larger than the average double by Mac or Peg which will make it much easier to push. My old Peg was impossible to push when they were both 40lbs each.

Thanks for your help

we rented the double strollers at the park most days and carried our double stroller with us a few times! Much easier to use strollers from disney- they are big and heavy duty. My 2 kids rode in it and they were pretty big. 8 and 6 yrs old and we thought it was easy to move stroller around! it was a pain to fold and have the double stroller on the buses with us!!

I thought that as well in Feb and it ended up costing me almost $200 for the week to rent from Disney. My DD hates walking so leaving the park with a stroller is key to having a happy princess. For only $85 it was not a question of which way to go. Very easy to push two 50 pounders in the City Mini.

Can't wait til next week!
