I'm throwing together a last minute trip to WDW for me and my 2 special needs kids. (Husband can't get the time off, so we are soloing). And I do mean last min--bought today, leaving next wed!

I just realized my trick knee is not going to hold up with the walking (long story to explain why that isn't even on my top ten list of problems to solve). So I am thinking of renting a scooter, which I have never done before. But I am clueless.

1. How do you get one (delivered to hotel?)
2. how do you charge it?
3. how do you get it to/from theme parks?
4. how long does it run on a charge?
5. what do they cost?
6. What size rental vehicle/car will they fit in?

Like I said, I'm totally clueless but I suspect this is going to be a necessity this time. help!

Every Disney bus can take at least two ecv/wheelchairs I know you might not want to take the bus but figured to give you that option.

Follow the link in my signature or look near the top of this board for the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Post 2 of that thread has information about renting scooters that will answer most of your questions.
2. how do you charge it?
you would bring it into your room and plug it in every night.
3. how do you get it to/from theme parks?
buses, monorails, most boats, car.
There is a post in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about getting around WDW and WDW transportation.
4. how long does it run on a charge?
it should easily run a full day. Turn it off when you are sitting still and charge it every night.
5. what do they cost?
6. What size rental vehicle/car will they fit in?
You cn contact some of the companies listed in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs to get answers to those questions.

I appreciate the fact that you asked and have had these questions answered. I have one more. I am staying in a BWV studio, is there room in the studio to fit a scooter overnight to charge it? Sometimes I see scooters in the hall, and I wondered about that.

Yes. You may have to move a piece of furniture a bit, but won't have trouble.
People do leave them outside their door, but there may not be a place to charge it, it could get 'played with' by other people and, if you are not renting from one f the Preferred vendors, could be looked at as abandoned

OK. I just didn't know if they were out in the hall because there was not room inside a studio. We will rent from a preferred vendor.

Thank you Sue, et al. I did see the list of vendors, and got the gist, but when it says "capable of 25 miles", I can't mentally translate that into real world usage at the parks ;-)

We are renting a car, we don't use much other than monorails. but I'm going to have to get it in and out of the car solo. I guess I'll call Apple and the others to see which rental car would be best.

Thanks again!!!

PS we are staying at AKL Kidani, assuming we can either leave it in the hall or in teh room? Studio.

Do they have keys so you can lock it or something when you park it? Like if you dining in restaurant, do you just park it outside?

They do have keys, and you should always take the keys with you when you leave it. You can park it in stroller parking, or somewhere out of the way when dining. If the person riding the ECV can't walk at all, you can usually ride it into the restraunt and either sit in the ECV to eat, or transfer to a chair and get someone to take it outside to park. There is a little lever under the seat that lets you turn the seat. You can turn it 90 degrees so you can sit facing the table as normal.

For those who can walk some, it may be more convient to leave it outside the restraunt entirely. It may also be easier to leave it outside crowded stores. Be aware that if you leave it outside, it might get moved as CMs tidy up stroller parking, etc. There is a lever at the back that puts it in neutral so that it can be easily pushed, even without the key. Also, if you exit a ride in a different place than you get on, the CMs will use this to move the ECV so it's waiting for you at the exit.
