Renting a Scooter

I'm sure if I hunt around I can find the answer to this, but I'm limited in my internet connetion right now. In fact, I have to run to Dunkin Donuts for WiFii if I need something..... lol!

I'll be going to the World in October and just trying to get my budget in order. How much do the scooters in the parks cost daily? I don't need to get a weekly scooter. I have RSD, which is chronic nerve pain and too much walking causes pain and I start looking for a bench after just an hour of being on my feet. But I have to walk to keep mobile. So the best solution to me would be just rent a scooter while in I'm in the parks.

My other issue is the water parks. I had a broken ankle several years ago and those low beach chairs just don't work for me. I don't plan on doing alot of walking, the kids can go do thier thing and I'll stay seated. But I've never seen regular chairs except at the eating areas. What does everyone suggest?

I took the kids to Seasame Place, it's a very small park. So I thought I'd be okay. But I didn't think I'd make it back to the car, the pain was so bad. They sell thier tickets as a 2 day pass. So we went back the second time and I ended up renting a wheel chiar so i'd have something to sit in when the kids were on the rides. It worked well, although I felt stupid pushing an empty wheel chair around.

Looking forward to hearing everyones suggestions.

I believe it's $70 at the parks and you get $20 back when you turn in the key and I know it's $100 refundable deposit at DTD and I think $50 for the rental.

Even if you don't need it all day or at the resorts, it is alot cheaper to rent from offsite.

It is a lot cheaper to rent from off site vendors like Apple Scooters. This does 2 things, saves on the pocket book, and ensures that you have a scooter when you need it. Disney scooters are very limited in number and are on a first come/first served basis.

As a fellow RSD'er, I highly recommend just renting from off site. You can park the scooter in the stroller parking from time to time to allow yourself some exercise. My issues are also in the feet and I understand what you mean by the pain and looking for a seat. I have my own scooter that I bring with me and use in the parks. When I want to walk, I either have someone in my party drive it for a while, or I park it in the stroller parking and come back to it when I need it.

As far as the water parks goes, I'm not sure, but I think you can rent a wheelchair there to use for the day, but if you have a scooter from off site, you can take it with you and use it.

We don not rent wheelchairs at the water parks. We have a small, limited number (less than 12) that we will loan to Guests if they need one. We do not have ECVs available. There also are special water wheelchairs that can be used in extremely limited situations.

Normally I would not recommend bringing any sort of powered chair to the water parks due to all the sand.

I agree with the PPs, I would rent an ECV from an offsite place, their scooters are better and cheaper. You can use it for the parks and leave it in the hotel when you are just going for dinner or something like that. I highly recommend Walker Mobility.

Post 2 has information about renting both ECVs and wheelchairs in the parks. If you scroll down post 2 a little farther, you will find a list of off-site rental companies, along with website links and phone numbers.

Rent offsite and use the scooter to go long distances. When you get to an area, say Adventureland, park it and do the attractions there on foot. Then ride the scooter to your next destination. Park it and enjoy the nearby attractions on foot.
The problem with waiting until you need it is that you are already in pain, and that pain wears you out. You will still need to get the scooter, which means a long walk to the front of the park.
Renting offsite means you will have it for the long walk into the park, the entire day, and the long distance back to your final destination, saving you pain and energy so you can enjoy the time with your family for longer.

thanks for everyones input. I'll have to think about renting now.

I think you really should. When my mom goes with us, we usually rent one for from Walker's Mobility. However, Apple Scooters seems to get rave reviews on this site too, so for our upcoming trip in two weeks I decided to check prices. Apple was quite a bit cheaper ($135.00 for 8 days). They also have the newer Go Go Elite ECVs that are so much easier to maneuver in the parks and onto buses.

I just happened to think.... we're staying in the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans. Are they wheel chair accessible? I've never stayed in the Magnolia section, but the other section I believe doesn't have elevators, you need to go up stairs even to the first set of rooms. Does anyone know?

Where would you go to get the chairs? First Aid?

I'll look at Apple also. I forget who I rented from years ago. It was right after I was getting back on my feet from the broken ankle and I didn't care for them much. I had to be there for pickup and delievery. I couldn't call from the airport and they gave me hell for waiting until I got to the hotel and it messed up thier delivery system.

The wheelchairs art the water parks are up at the Gate. Just ask one of the turnstile greeters. First Aid has a couple, but they are for emergency use only; for a guest who gets a minor injury and needs a chair but does not need to be evacuated to a hospital.

As far as the water wheelchairs, you would have to check with a Lifeguard at the Beach.

And a couple of years ago one of the Greeters sent an unhappy Guest to me at my Guest Relations Window as she was told nothing was available and she saw an ECV that could be rented out and demanded to use it. I told her the rental fee would be $100, and there was a requirement for a $500 deposit; both to be in cash only. And it had to be back before I left for the day as I needed it to get back to my car and home. When she got out of shock I explained it was my personal ECV and I set the rules for it.

unfortunatley I need a sccoter all the time unless I am in a wheelchair so I rent offsite from walker and frined of mione uses apple. I need to even get out of the room and to the bus and then into a park or anywhere. for two weeks it cost me with insurance $300 but without it I could not go.

You do not need to go up stairs to get to the Royal Rooms. They are located in Magnolia Bend, which has elevators in every building. When you come up to the front of the building, you will see a grand staircase, but off to one side, you will find signs directing you to an elevator.

The other section, Alligator Bayoo has all 2 story buildings without elevators. The first floor of those buildings s accessible without going up stairs. One side of some buildings has stairs, but there will be a ramp or level entry on another side wherever there are stairs.
