We are taking a trip to Disney in August and I want to rent my father a scooter. He doesn't use one at home but at 71 he is not very mobile. With 4 grandkids to drag him around for a week, I'd like him to be able to enjoy without wearing himself out or causing too much pain in his arthritic hips. Where is the best place to rent a scooter from? Thanks in advance for the help

Follow the link in my signature or look near the top of this board for the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Post 2 of that thread is about renting ECVs and wheelchairs. It includes web links and phone numbers for rental companies that DIS Board posters have recommended over the years.

I have used walker mobility a few times and it worked out good. they delivered right to resort, but I stayed off property.

Hi I rented a scooter for my husband from Apple Scooters .They were great both times the scooter was waiting at the resort .I went on line chose what we wanted and everything worked out. I liked that even though my husband doesn't need it always we were at Port Orleans and there was just to much walking. It was great on the busses and fit in the room. Good luck you won't be sorry it will make a world of differance to your Dad.:)

We've used both Walkers and Apple Scooters and would highly recommend either. If staying onsite, I'd go with Apple though, since they are one of the preferred providers and Walker's is not. That way they could just drop the ECV off at bell services where it would be waiting for you prior to arrival and then you could just drop it back off at bell services on your last day and go on your way. With Walker's you'd have to arrange a pick up and drop off time, since the ECV could not be left at the resort.

I just returned from WDW last night and rented a scooter for the first time. I rented from Apple and the only issue I had was that it wasn't fully charged when I got it. It died on me at the resort, Caribbean Beach after riding it from Barbados to Port Royale. I had never used one before and neither had any one else in my party of 8. My brother-in-law ended up pushing it back to the room as we didn't yet know about being able to take it out of gear. After letting it charge up all night it was fine for the park the next day. There was room for the scooter and 2 inflatable beds in the room. (I shared a room with 2 of my sisters and a niece and we all wanted our own bed!)
Most of the bus drivers were great about helping me get it on and off the buses.
Most of the time I would park it and walk onto the rides but a couple of times the CM would tell me to just ride it to the handicapped entrance which also worked well except for Toy Story Mania which resulted in the rest of the family getting finished with the ride and having to wait about 15 extra minutes for me. This was also after waiting in a line that said 50 minutes when we got in line and ended up being almost 2 hours.

Does Apple scooters also rent wheel chairs and would they deliver to Shades of Green

Yes, they do. Here's their site:http://www.applescooter.com/Orlando...H=8&PUM=00&PAMPM=PM&OD=6/19/2013&HN=1&CR=Bell

I think they'll deliver anywhere in Orlando. In Sept they delivered my mom's ECV to AKL. In Oct/Nov they delivered another one for her to Westgate Town Center, but then picked it up from Royal Pacific Resort over at Universal a week later. This past May they delivered and picked up another to Wyndham Bonnet Creek timeshare for her.
