Renting a house?

Hello all,

I am thinking about trying something different when we go down this fall with my 2 kids and parents. (There will be a total of 5 of us) We have always stayed on site (in the past seven years or so) but I was looking at some of the rental options and was really impressed. We will be driving down so we will have our own car. The house I was looking at was a 3 bedroom with a private pool and is 15 min away from Disney. I would love to hear about other's experience with renting a house near Disney. Is 15 min to much of drive if we are coming back during the day with a return trip at night? Is parking at the parks a big hassle? I am so used to using Disney transportation. When compared to either 2 rooms at a value or a Fort Wilderness cabin, the rental is much more affordable. ($115 per night in the off season). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Terri, we were a group of 13 and rented a house last May. It was a 6 bedroom with 4 baths and a game room. We stayed and the Windsor Palms. It was great. Take a look at the allstarvactionhomes.com web site. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Try this one called the Hunny Pot Villa in Emeral Island 3 miles from Disney. We stayed there a little over a month ago and loved it. The private pool and jacuzzi were wonderful. There are two master suites with your own bathroom and two other bedrooms with each two twin beds that share a bathroom.

We've stayed in Hampton Lakes which is in Davenport (and about 15 minutes away). The drive was super quick and easy. So no problems there. The prices are about 20-40% less than those of the communities in the immediate WDW area. So, sometimes it's worth it to make the 15 minute drive.

I'd start by checking out some of the sites that offer rental homes. First thing will be to decide if you want to rent direct or from a mang. company. Then how mnay bedrooms and amenities you want.

I'd also go through some of the threads on this board. There are a lot on this topic that will be helpful. :)

we will be staying in Windsor Hills in October got villa from vr360. Last year we stayed at a house at Emerald Island resort. Once you do this it is very hard to go back to hotels because you are spead out just like at home. And what is not to love about your own swimming pool kitchen, living room ect.
Washer and Dryer also. Try it and you will like it.

I would say try it! I don't really have "on-site" to compare it to, as it was my 1st trip & there were 11 of us, so we opted for the cheaper/more room route.. It was a 5 br, 3 ba private pool house that said, 3-5 miles from Disney (it was in Sunset Lakes).. It was a "gated" community, which made me feel a little "safer." What I loved? ALL the space (3000 sq.ft vs. 200-300 sq. ft hotel room, even 3 of those would only give us 600 sq. ft), 5 TV's, so everyone could watch whatever they wanted, nap times were a sinch because everyone had a "place" to go, a private heated pool, we could swim whenever we wanted & it was only 5 steps from the Living room, the kids were swimming at 7 a.m. and the adults at 10 p.m., the W/D was SO nice as I only packed a few shorts for everyone, so i just did a few loads while there, saved some $$ eating at the house at least 1x/day instead of in parks, and of course, it only cost me $300.00 for the week, can't beat that! What I disliked: travel time, it took about 10 minutes to AK parking lot, about 20 minutes to MK parking lot, 15 or so for MGM & Epcot..Not TOO bad, but times were ALOT longer when we were leaving at night & there was traffic, we only did a break 1 day, because of travel time..

Did I feel like I wasn't "immersed" (sp?) in the magic, not really, but again I had never been to WDW and never stayed on site.
Whatever you decide, HAVE FUN! :wizard:
