Renting a DVC Fixed Week

Can anyone tell me what the rules are pertaining to renting a DVC fixed week? I know weeks from RCI and such are forbidden. But I own a legitimate DVC fixed week contract. Would I have to advertise as points only? Want to be in compliance here on Disboards so advice appreciated!

My question was about posting here on the DIS. As I remember we are not allowed to post 7 night reservations.....

Isn’t it true that moderators view posts on the rent trade board before they are posted. You can see what happens. Certainly your fixed week is a special case that may not have existed when they made rules here. Good luck in doing what you want!

Make sure you post it as a fixed week and it might pass.

Maybe there’s some exception they’ll make but the rule is actually that you can’t rent an existing reservation more than 30 days in advance of check in. I think think you can pay to do so earlie though.

I’d probably cancel the fixed week and I’ve the points for a rental. I’m doubtful you’d make enough of a premium on any fixed week and the premium # of points required plus paying to rent an existing reservation to beat out cancelling and renting all the points. Would somewhat depend on the year though.

That’s to eliminate the possibility of the week being an RCI week in which renting it is a rules violation.

The problem here is that even if you could prove to the moderators that it’s a fixed week and not an RCI week, the mere presence of the listing would bring RCI week requests to list out of the woodworks.

“That guy is listing a Sunday-week reservation.”

Not enough traffic in fixed week rentals to manage the fallout from making the exception. And. If you ever look at such things on eBay, there are actually lots of people looking to break the rules on RCI weeks. So. The rule exists for good reason.

On a similar note, I wonder if fixed week owners can take advantage of the online modify tool? At 11 months on the dot, go online and modify to drop the end night, so the reservation would be Sun-Sat. I suppose then we would have to call MS to have them refund the 10% point premium as well.

There are a scary number of very sketchy DVC rentals on ebay. Really makes you wonder what some people are thinking.

This is where the race weekend fixed week’s benefit of being able to modify start and stop dates of the week would come in very handy.

Yeah, I wish that would have been available when we purchased. I don't run, but the flexibility would have been soooo nice.

I don't believe so. To shorten, I believe it must convert to points and a new reservation booked. But I'm not positive on that.

Another reason to just rent the points: you get more points to rent out. My fixed week at VGF needs 169 points for someone to book it, but if I don’t use the fixed week feature, I get 186 points to use.

You have to cancel the week and then rebook to change the length.
