Anyone done this before?

Wondering if anyone has experience using Rent the Runway.

TIA for any help or advice if you've done this before.

No experience with Rent the Runway, but we did rent a semi dress for DD17. She has put on weight, so finding something she liked and was reasonably priced was problematic.

We ended up in a boutique not far from us, and the dresses/gowns, though beautiful, were several hundred dollars. She mainly catered to the Quinceañera parties.

I remarked how it was too expensive, so she said she rented for $100 and that included all alterations. It was a first for us, but decided to try it. We had to leave a $50 deposit as well, that would be returned when we returned the dress.

Very nervous though, because if it got stained or damaged in any way, we would be charged full price.

A few families with girls I know did this, but honestly, I don't think I would do it again. I couldn't wait to get that dress back to the store! And DD17 also felt a little stressed at the semi, that nothing happened to it.

I used Rent the Runway last year for my birthday. DH was nice enough to throw me a party for my 30th, so I rented a really cute dress that I knew I would never get the chance to wear again. It was great, I got to pick a second style for $25, and they include a backup size for each dress for free. I actually ended up wearing my second choice, I just liked it better when I tried it on, so that was $25 well spent. The whole process was so easy, everything arrived on time and it was really easy to send the merchandise back. They even let you keep the garment bags, which I love. They send me promo codes all the time, so I will definitely use them again if I am going somewhere special! :)

With Rent the Runway do you pay when you reserve the dress or when they ship it?

I've never rented a dress before. But check for nearby outlets. I drive about an hour and half away from my house. There's an outlet mall, with a BCBG outlet. I've got great designer dresses for only $100. Marked down from $400 or more. They look amazing on me, and they're all mine.

A friend of mine LOVES Rent the Runway - I don't know that she has actually bought a new dress in months, she just rents them now!

DH is often invited to formal affairs for work and since it's always with mostly the same crowd, I can't wear the same dress twice. Gets expensive so I checked out the Rent the Runway site and was interested, but too leery to take the plunge. I'm curious as well to hear what others' experiences have been. Thanks for posting, OP!

I rented both my prom dress and my wedding dress from a local shop! :thumbsup2

My wedding dress was actually brand new and a quite pricey dress... I got my dream dress on a budget! :goodvibes

I placed the order a week before I needed it, and I think they charged immediately, but I don't remember. I just checked my original confirmation, and I got two dresses (with a backup size for each) for $60, and that included shipping and insurance
