My husband is really wanting a private cabana at discovery cove but is it worth it? Are they truely private? Any info would be great. This is our first time going to discovery cove as well...its just us 2.

I saw one along the path by the stingray pool. There is so much to do we hardly sat down all day so to me it's not really worth it. I think they had a gate to the cabana but I could see the people sitting in there so I don't know how 'private' I would say it is.

If we get there at say 8am...is there a lot of idle time where you would actually spend time in the Cabana?

We rented one for our upcoming trip. I know some people are for it and some people are not. There is alot to do at Discovery Cove, but I'm not interested in all of it. I think my husband will spend half the day with the stingrays, which I don't really want to get near. I'll be spending that time in the cabana reading.

Are you doing the dolphin swim? From start to finish that takes about an hour. Other than that it's up to you. You are free to do as much or as little as you want. They have a lazy river, aviary, stingray pool and coral reef you can snorkel in. We have two kids and they wanted to be in the water the entire day so we had very little down time. Warning: the water in the reef, dolphin pool and stingray pool are kept at around 73 degrees. We wore wetsuits when we did the swim but I wish I had kept it on for snorkeling too!

I don't really think there is a need for it at DC. There a plenty of free little nooks to hang out in. It doesn't feel particularly crazy. That said if the desire is for guaranteed shade, then maybe. While there are plenty of shady areas at DC, they change as the sun moves thru the sky so it is hard to scope out a shady spot even if you get there early.

We got one for our June trip because we will have 4 kids with us including a 20 month old. That way Grandma can relax, she is not big into the swimming but wanted to come, and watch the little one while we do some of the activities.

I'll make sure to post our experience, we will be there in less than 2 weeks :)
